Going for 3 nights in a couple of weeks, what is the best and cheapest transfer from the airport to the city, don't want to get ripped off like we did in Amsterdam !

Hotel car for us, nothing worse than worrying about being ripped off/late back

Where exactly are you staying ? For nearly every touristy location and presumably only a small bag for 3 days.... you're better off taking the bus straight from the airport front door and then taking the metro. You need a 32kc ticket (under £1). It'll end up being quicker than taking a taxi as the bus can drive in specific lanes, and the Metro part is faster than the road.

Unless you've got mobility issues / multiple kids / very bulky baggages... its almost certainly the way to go. But if you want to narrow down where you're staying I can give you more specific advice (on getting there, or anything else you need)

Agree with the above. The cheapest is definitely the bus then Metro combination, but if you have big bags this isn't ideal.

The easiest and least risky is to get your hotel to arrange a transfer. Can't remember what we paid for this, but it wasnt too expensive. Most likely more than getting a random taxi, but with less chance of being ripped off.

agree with Hotel Car- fixed price both ways and you guarantee to get to where you want to go via the direct route, and not via the tourist trail with a few extra miles thrown in.

I stayed there last month, at a hotel in the old town, hotel taxi was about £25 each way including tip from the airport / 900czk

Goldfingers is an overpriced tourist trap. There are way better options if you're going there to be a bit seedy and creepy.

Okay, so you're half a block from a Metro stop on the B line (the metro has lines A, B & C. They all cross over so no matter we're coming from or going, you could only ever need to change one time once you're in the metro system).

You have various options... the 100 or 179 bus from outside the airport will take you directly to a metro station on the B line. Then from there go to the Krizikova station and your hotel seems to be 50-100 metres from that. Or the 119 from outside the airport to Dejvika on the A line, then 4 stops to Mustek (right at the top of Wenceslas Square) and change to B line from there, then again to Krizikova.

Or take the regular buses to the same block your hotel is on.

Just looking on Google maps there, all of the routes are similar time wise. I'd say 45 minutes. Car will apparently take you 30 minutes according to the map, but the reality is the car is going to take you just as long as the Metro, if not longer. Plus prague taxi's are brutal for overcharging tourists... legally they can all set their own rate and if you don't check it before you get in the car thats tough st really.

If it were me I'd be taking the 119 outside to Dejvicka, swap at Mustek and on to Krizikova. Its less distance on the road and more on the metro. Which means far less chance to get caught up in traffic etc. That route is almost certainly going to get you there faster than a taxi and it'll cost you £1 a head.

If you're arriving after 11pm please confirm everything is running the full way there before you get on though laugh

You could be right....there's a smaller place right across the street, but I can't remember it's name

I lived there for 12 years, as others have said bus and metro but to be honest a taxi is only £20 to £25.

Darling is expensive. Show park or a Private apartment is the way to go if you are into that sort of thing.

We went for a stag do and I got mugged by a beautiful blonde pickpocket, she started saying that she loved me and kissing me hard on the mouth. When I realised what was going on my wallet was gone. As far as muggings go I'd highly recommend it

Yes I got completely shafted, I did not bother to sell my cars and just left them in my friends car park when I moved back to the uk, I went back a few weeks ago to sell them and found I have lost 20% of the value due to the change in exchange rate. Same goes for quite a bit of cash I had in the bank out there.

fk that.

I'd have used the cars and the cash to trade up into something else, and brought it back with me !

I did think about that but I have a Panamera and 911 along with other cars so I just did not want to have to deal with getting rid of a LHD car in the uk in the future.

At least I got rid of the property when I still got sub 30.
