I'm thinking of heading to Bruges (possibly), Brussels (possibly), Luxembourg and Amsterdam next Spring for a week.
Having been looking at travel costs, it looks like that even in my M5, it is cheaper to drive than it is to get flights / trains by over £200! I dont mind the drive having driven to Paris in February this year.

I just cannot decide between Bruges and Brussels. I want to stay for 2 nights in each city otherwise all I am going to end up doing is traveling between resting at the hotel / rented apartment / room, and 6 nights is stretching our budget, but 8 nights I think would blow it.

Does anyone have any opinions on where is better? Brussels or Bruges? I suppose with them being so close together we could spend a day in Bruges, go back to Brussels, sleep, get up next day, spend it in Brussels, sleep, next day drive to Luxembourg, spend 2 days there then onto Amsterdam, via Germany and an autobahn wink and Amsterdam back to Dunkirk.

Has anyone done this kind of trip before? Any recommendations? I haven't been to any of these places before, but the gf has been to all but Brussels and Luxembourg. Is Luxembourg worth going to?

Thanks.

I like Bruges touristy (in a good way) compact and easily mangaged centre. Brussels is big so it takes more time to find the places. Brussels tends to be very quiet @ weekends, the hotel we stayed in closed the restaurant on a Sat/Sun eve.

Gent is supposed to worth a visit, I've not been to but it's on my list. wink

I have watched In Bruges before, but it was a long time ago. Might have to watch it again.
