How about Helsinki? You could go on a vodka fuelled rampage in possibly the most civilised country in the world - perfect compromise.

And then go shoot st: http://www.hsc.fi/indexEN.html

A bunch of hairbrained Northerners you say...

I think you'll find you'll blend right in.

Helsinki is NOT cheap. I'd have thought Prague/Talinn would be a lot cheaper and more geared to a stag weekend, fwiw.

I'm heading to Kraków this weekend, from what I have read local beer is roughly £2 ( some places will be as cheap as £1 if I'm lucky )and fairly cheap to eat out in local restaurants, plenty of pubs and bars to chose from in the old town and Jewish quarter.

Not going for the shooting ranges but they are pretty common in Central/Eastern Europe

I went to Riga a few years ago. Flew with Ryanair. Booked a package with Chilli sauce, did the old shooting, go karts and all that. Not bad town on the piss as well. Flights were about £150 and the package including a hotel was about £100.

The KGB shooting trip was a bit scary, was expecting a bag over my head at any point!

Prague has great nightlife, when I went 8 years ago it was fairly cheap but I hear it isn't very cheap anymore. That aside it's a stunning city( as are the local women)

I was in Wroclaw in Poland a few years back for a Stagg do. It's nice and cheap, stunning women, plenty of clubs and pubs, plus loads of activities to choose from.

I've been to budapest several times. Never really found any busy bars or clubs. Found a few pedestrianised cafe culture type streets. ( more my style these days)
But big city and no guide with us.

Dear Pesty

I have had the honour of being best man six times... so I've organised six stag do's.. and as I did them so well I was even honorary best man with stag organising stripes for two more.

1. ORGANISATION Look its easy to organise, with a combination of booking.com, tripadvisor and all the flight websites... Its just you have to be organised. You don't need a 'company' to help. Start with the stag and talk through where and average budget.

2. DE-RISK You need to de risk this. Unfortunately some of your friends will say yes and then decide not to turn up, often at the expense of others or even yourself. Some will forget and some will miss flights etc.... The expensive things are hotels and flights. So I would recommend something like.. the Rendezvous is X bar in Y City... most of the guys are staying at Z hotel.. here is where to book...e.g. the link to the hotel etc and put the onus on the stag party guest.

3. SIMPLE Keep it deceptively simple. If you're off on a foreign jaunt, try and keep the first night easy... nothing complex... it will soon get out of hand anyway so planning anything the next morning is crazy.. So for example arrive Friday... First activity on Saturday afternoon.... after lunch.

4. Small is good 6 to 8 max. Easier to split into groups for easy club entry, taxi's or restaurant booking.

5. EATING Organise in advance exactly where to eat. Again this is simple, the internet provides. Pin these down in advance and make reservations in advance.. You want to avoid the pathetic, crap lolling about not knowing where to eat thing.. this can use up enormous amounts of drinking time.. again keep it simple Nando's, Wagamama's, Hard Rock etc. they won't remember where they ate anyway... These also act as rendezvous's for lost guests. And you will lose one or two.

6. HOTEL Choose a hotel away from where you will be partying and taxi in.. this may seem counter intuitive... but life is better this way. Its good to have a safe place where you can regroup and is not easily accessible to wh*res, drug dealers, other stag parties. More on that later.

7. THE BARS Very simply you need plenty of bars and a good and I mean good t*tty bar. Again the internet provides, you should research all the best t*tty bars in advance, this is not difficult e.g. in Prague its: Goldfingers.. so make a list...

8. MEDICINES. As organiser stock up on the following: Pain: Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Paracetomol, Voltorol Gel. PUKE: Gaviscon, Zantac SH*T: Dioralyte, Immodium. CUT: Elastoplast, TCP etc. For anything more... KNOW here the hospital is.. and make sure everyone has that E111 card. Pharmacies can be elusive, just when you need them...

9. TAG: If possible get everyone to download the same app so you can all locate each other... Especially useful in the more dangerous cities. But also to locate the lost guests.

10. KITTY: Nominate a treasurer and have a kitty.. budget on at least £100 each per day... this should cover the basics.. and one person orders the rounds.. pays for the meal etc.. trust me on this.

11. APPAREL: Two options 1. Very cool fancy dress..with proper effort for 1 night only 2. Very smart... do not go down the printed T shirt thing... no matter how funny you think it is it looks sad... limits your entrance options, turns girls off, attracts criminals and makes you all look like knobs. Oh and no obviously British things... e.g. Union Flag t-shirt...

12. LOCATION IDEAS (In order of experience)

i. Lisbon: Smoking Bars, Liberal attitude, the BAIRRO ALTO quarter, great food
ii. Amsterdam: Smoking bars, liberal attitude, great food, incredible girls, some places never close. And the other thing..
iii. Barcelona: Temperature, The Port Olympic Bar area, Clubs close at 8am, great food.
iv. Prague: Generally cost effective, smoking bars, fabulous t*tty bars, casino's.. but it has weird currency it takes ages to understand.
V. Vienna: connoisseur's choice, smoking bars, great girls, expensive
vi: Dusseldorf: It has one street which is one bar... beer, sausages.. they banned smoking in bars last year..
Vii: Split or Zagreb: Not for the feint hearted but adventure aplenty to be had here....

13. ESCAPE Ok you budget may not stretch to this... but if it does.. always have a minivan taxi with you... one can negotiate a deal... ask your hotel. This is your escape hatch, if things get weird.. anywhere... its there outside waiting for you... or for example there at a certain time...e.g. outside Goldfingers at 4am... again book in advance. This will take you away from any scene back to your slightly out of centre hotel.... away from situations..

14. BE NICE It is so very very easy to end up in an awful lot of bother.. so brief the guys at the airport or before...

Anyway.. I think I got bit carried away there!

Best of luck

A

Andrew, thanks for your post, very useful and though I'm unlikely to ever be a best man again, or indeed go on another stag do, I've saved it for my son who'll be organising a stag next year. Again, thanks for taking the time to post.

Lots of good advice here already, just some city recommendations:

Belgrade, looks dodgy as hell, but cheap beer, nice people and great clubs on the river (literally on the river.) Stag do of 12 encountered no problems and made lots of friends!

Ljubjiana- same as above with the exception that it is very pretty. went on my own stag, and went skiing (40 mins from the city centre to slopes)

Have fun!

This is potentially an awful idea. There is a stag party missing one attendant right now in Prague, they were staying in a hotel miles from the main drinking areas. One theory is he's went off somewhere in one of the unlicensed taxis, and/or been robbed/killed while trying to find his way back to the hotel. This couldn't have happened if they were staying on Wencelsas Square or Old Town square. Everything extremely easy to find via landmarks they're next to and everything within walking distance...
