its perfectly legal to carry two passports. i've been asked by immigration a couple of times if i have my other PP with me and then asked to show it. its not like they're in two different names!

i've only ever had an issue in curacao as i gave them the wrong one by mistake, as they have a lot of problems with south americans coming in on stolen passports who then transit on to europe. they thought i had a duplicate but after checking the serial nos. they were happy.

anyway, back to the gadgets!
What about duel nationality, I went out with a girl who had 2 passports, 2 different countries.
there is no cross over of information, and as long as your two countries are ok with dual / multiple nationality there is no issue.

You do however have to make sure that you depart a country using the same passport you arrived on to solve a few awkward questions before everything gets cleared up!!!

If only there was an easy solution to this! I take my Victorinox multi-tool in the hold luggage for holidays, but for work I'm always hand luggage only. As someone who lives with a tiny classic Swiss Army knife in my pocket on my door key, this whole travelling without a knife thing pisses me off no end, even if it's only for the mundane things like cutting a nail or fiddling with my ecig.

The only solution that I've found is travelling to a regular destination once with hold baggage and leaving a knife with a colleague so that it's there waiting for me next time. The person who comes up with a mini tool with scissors, screwdriver and some semblance of a blade that is acceptable onboard an aeroplane will deservedly make a fortune.

I've um forgotten to remove this from my keyring before many many flights, never been noticed, and it's actually really sharp, plus has little screwdriver tips built in for minor repairs on the go. Highly recommended.

Battery pack not a necessity, if you have it you use it, if you don't you think in advance !! Used it once in seven weeks.
Wait until you've been unexpectedly screwed over by the airline and abandoned in the terminal for 36 hours with hundreds of other people similarly screwed, all wanting to charge their phones on the few sockets available, but my main luggage locked away somewhere else in the building. Even if you've got your charger in your hand luggage, and managed to find somewhere quiet to plug it in (been to plenty of airports with "boxed in" or "locked" or "non standard, cleaners only" sockets) that's not in massive demand from everyone else, you're then tied to that place for an hour or however long it takes to get some juice in.

I didn't half feel dodgy hanging around in disabled toilets for an hour as the only place with power, so never ever again have I travelled without a portable power bank of some sort, at least then I have options and can move about.

yes particularly in the days of heightened concern about showing mobile phones to be operational, not to mention boarding cards stored in Passbook etc.

I was told years ago that you can travel on a photo copy of your first passport page incase of emergencys abroad is this correct I've never witnessed or heard first hand experiences just whispers amongst colleagues.

Although recommended I've never carried a photo copy.
I carry scans of various documents like insurance, V5, etc in my phone and kindle, but it's never occurred to me to have a copy of my passport.
Dont do that, scan your passport and anything else, and email them to yourself. That way if anything else is lost or stolen they dont have your details, and neither do you lose them. You can always access your email if you lose everything, and its nice and secure.

Now you mention it, I do have one of these but have never thought about its crafty ability to slip onboard flights by disguising itself as a key. Now if they could tweak the design to give a mini scissor function then it's a winner!

Wow, just wow. I very rarely post much on this website as you have to filter thru a lot of arguing and bickering to find the gems that are out there.

I didn't intend to be involved in any of it, so I rarely post.

Anyway to clarify I was not in anyway trying to be condensanding just trying to explain as simply as I could what a 2nd passport is for. If I was trying to be condensending I'd add something like below

It's not like in the movies for when the establishment are after you like in Jason borne. You have a '"legend" get away pack. With a fake name, credit cards, a stick on moustache (with glasses, banana nose, optional obviously for comical effect and not to clear customs)

Anyway at least you know what it is now and I'll retract further posts from this website as people seem to get severe butt hurt when they get the answer they ask for if its not sugar coated in glitter and sparkles.

Usually that type of ahole stays away from quiet subforums like this, but they are the reason PH is getting worse and worse.

in person but doubt that's an easy option for you.

i always carry both. have had my PP confiscated a couple of times [overzealous african police] so its nice to know i can still GTFO if needed.
Just don't end up in a situation where they search you and find you have two passports. That is not fun as the instant conclusion is that you are a terrorist of some description.

I very intelligently got both my passports out by mistake in South Africa and they took them both and sent me to a 'special' room and asked lots of questions. I was actually quite worried.

Not as worried as being locked up in a cell in Saudi once of course ... wink

I've used 4-wheeled Samsonite cases for years, and they've held up remarkably well. Scuffs, zipper pulls missing etc. but no real damage on top of normal wear and tear.

I can highly recommend them. As a pilot, I've probably done a few hundred flights with one carry-on suitcase. It's been checked a few times, but normally it's carried on board. I've used it, alongside a hard leather flight case as my work 'briefcase', which I've had for donkeys...

You can often find them on sale, which is when I've bought mine. I got 2 carry on cases, and 2 large ones for the hold.

I've since decided to treat myself to some new work luggage. I got the Rimowa Topas Stealth cabin-sized case, and the matching 'business trolley' briefcase. They're very beautiful things. Handmade, sharp looking with very nice components and clever features. I'm delighted with them so far, although I can't vouch for them too much, as I've only done a few trips with them. I appreciate they're prone to dents and scratches, but being exclusively for carry-on use, they're pristine so far. I'll let you know how they wear in the future.

I can say that a good 4-wheeler makes the airport experience so much more pleasant.

My other necessities are:
Bose QC3 on-ear headphones. They're brilliant, and the case is far smaller than the over-ear type.
Charging cables for iPhone and iPad.
Small portable charging unit (about the size of a 2-finger KitKat.
Custom-moulded earplugs for when I want to sleep.
Kindle.
Small amenities bag to hold some of the above, plus lip-balm, eye mask, toothbrush/paste, ambien sleeping pills etc.

I always have a couple of hundred US dollars, and my medical insurance card, too.

You strike me as a bit of a condescending ahole as well.

I asked a question which was a genuine enquiry. No snidey insinuations at all.

Some smartarse explains ending with 'dead simple really'. As if he's explaining how to tie shoelaces to a 5 year old.

Anyway I'm off to write a post about how much time I spend in first class and the best airport to eat caviar at.

You asked a question then insulted the person who answered you. Have a think for a minute how that makes you look.

I didn't read any condescension (sp?) in his reply whatsoever? I don't think he was saying, "It's dead simple, really, you compo gormer" while belming you off. Just saying that it's maybe a bit simpler than you were thinking it might be. I'd say it's your over-reaction and misunderstanding rather than him being a smartarse.

Now, these shoelaces you want explaining to you... May I suggest you stick to Velcro until you're a little older and can play nicely with the big boys? (Now THAT'S condescending!) wink

Fair enough, maybe I read an insinuation that wasn't there.
Apologies all round.

Yep, we got two Rimowa 67cm Salsa Deluxe suitcases for an upcoming trip to Hong Kong and New Zealand. Got them from Koffer Direkt in Germany as I managed to find a 15% off voucher code and got an extra 5% for paying by bank transfer.
