Is there any reason for them having the 2-pin system or just to be annoying
great idea for a thread. deffo having one of those universal lithium battery chargers and a waterproof limefuel power bank.
my recommendation would be very simple:

extremely tough and hard wearing. mine has taken serious abuse and still looks fairly new. available in lairy colours so you can spot it on the carousel, but the party piece is just how compact it can be folded and stored into it's carry bag. perfect for taking with you to allow additional luggage capacity on the move or on the return leg once laden down with souvenirs.
ETA - also remember to take a pack of zip ties! use instead of padlocks as in less salubrious parts of the world the airport baggage handlers will slash your luggage open to steal the contents. with a zip tie at least your luggage survives the ordeal intact.

I bought a pair of NorthFace trousers that can convert to shorts when you unzip the legs, slightly stretchy, fast drying, got them in Vietnam for 15 dollars so obviously not original but a few months wearing them and they are still together !!Should have bought two pairs.

I don't travel anywhere without an extension lead. Sounds stupid but arrive at an airport your laptops dying and everyone's taken the limited supply of plugs. A quick excuse me can I put your plug in my extension lead works wonders.
Also hotels very often have a shortage of plug sockets to feed your devices, it also means only 1 travel adapter is needed.
my top tip if you forget your charger is to check the tv in your room. Most of the time you can plug a usb cable into a flat screen tv at the back.
I've been debating getting one of these handluggage bags, I've heard they're great, compartmentalising your luggage, to the point where some people don't even bother unpacking. Plus the reinforced frame is designed to be used as a seat so you always have somewhere to sit while you're waiting for the plane...

Noise cancelling headphones for pleasant flights! I have a set of Sony on-ear that my wife bought me, but on American Airlines business class they hand out the Bose QuietComfort 15 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones that are a much more comfortable and effective around ear design. I will eventually crack and buy my own pair.......

I've had some Plane Quiets for a few years, the wife has some Sony. We're planning on replacing both and are moving towards Bose QC20i in ear headphones.Anyone got practical experience of them?

Use it at home and been great on holiday with some rooms having a shortage of plugs (1 in Egypt when TV was unplugged). Both myself and brother use Ecigs so great for them, phones and aaction camera over night.

As well as the previously mentioned universal sink plug, a supply of earplugs (buy a job lot from Amazon or ebay) and a Kindle, the other 'gadgets' I use regularly are bags...
1) Red Oxx Air Boss, superb build quality, fits into carry-on size category any due to no silly wheels you can pack it with nearly as much as a full sized suitcase. [I've just noticed the current price when looking for a picture

2) Foldable rucksack - basically a normal rucksack without any padding so can fold up into the size of a small paperback. Perfect when you want to travel with a single bag on a flight but need a smaller bag once you arrive.

I've heard good things about the QC20s and think I'll get a pair, the problem with the 15s is that they're so bulky you can't sleep on your side.
my top tip on top of the universal/world adapter plug is, a box shaped multi adaptor that you use at home behind the tv, that way if there is more than one uk socket required to charge things you now have 3
also a watertight zipper type bag for if you don't want to leave cash or keys on the beach whilst swimming.
