Taiwan/Hong Kong/Bangkok

Hi

I am looking for some advice on the following; my nephew has been teaching English in Taiwan for the last year and is due to come back in March - he has asked if I would like to come over before he finishes as he has a spare room in his apartment so I am seriously tempted. My current thinking is to spend a week with him then visit either HK or Thailand - I can get cheap flights from Edinburgh via Amsterdam or through some of the Middle Eastern hubs but most have long lay overs. The other option is to fly with BA to HK (sale now on (via London) - added benefit is I am close to getting Silver on my BA account so will earn the tier points), spend a few days there before heading to Taiwan. My nephew and his girlfriend spent a week in a lovely hotel just off the Thailand coast for very little money recently so am thinking it would be nice to spend 4/5 days there before heading back to HK (the only downside to this is the risk of appearing to be a sex tourist).

Any personal experience or advice gratefully received.

As soon as you mention you're going to Thailand people assume you're a sex tourist. Leave them to it, don't let that sway your decision.

Definitely work visiting HK .. especially if it gets you to another tier.

You can sex tour in HK and Taiwan too.

Thailand has so much more to offer than the lady boys and go go bars people always joke about, I love the country. only spent a total of 5 weeks on 2 trips there and have only touched the surface but happy to give any advice on what you might enjoy if you decide to go there.

Many thanks for the the replies. I have just booked the following -

BA

17th January - Edinburgh (via Heathrow) to Hong Kong. Plan to say here for a few days then fly to Taipai to stay with my nephew for around a week before flying to Thailand for some sun, food and relaxation.

1st February - Bangkok (via Heathrow) to Edinburgh.

I would be really grateful for some ideas/advice/where to stay on the Hong Kong and Thailand leg.

A quick update to the last post - I will be flying to Bangkok 4/5 days before my flight home and am really just looking for a nice hotel with a decent pool close to some nice restaurants. When my nephew visited he headed down to Koh Samui - I found a nice hotel on Trip Advisor for £60pn (http://www.lanna-samui.com) which gets great reviews. Flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui are £199 return. The other option is to find a nice hotel in Bankok with a pool - or venture to Pattaya....
