I'm going in April. I asked at our travel agents and they said that we pay in US dollars when we are there. Not sure this helps but that's what I'm gonna do.

Just make sure you have a pen & $10 handy when you get off of the plane.

It's a manic panic on arrival, why the. Airlines don't sort this out on route is beyond me.

The link above is correct and fine to use, we are off to Punta Cana next week and used that link (only work on Internet Explorer, not chrome)

Worthwhile doing rather than standing in a queue for an hour or so on arrival.

Hello, just back from 2 weeks in Punta Cana over Xmas. We flew with Thomson/First Choice, the immigration cards were handed out during the flight over so we filled ours out before we got there. You'll need to do the same before departure and we were given the forms by the rep at the hotel. It's $10 each on arrival and $20 each at departure. Have a good holiday! Cheers

We stayed at Dreams Palm Beach, had a great time and would definately return. We met some people who had stayed at the Palladium and are returning later this year

A word of advice, don't pack anything valuable in the hold baggage, we had our bags opened and jewellery and Xmas presents were taken, presumably by the baggage crew at punta cana airport. Not the best start to a holiday!

I read some mixed reviews on where we stayed, there were one or two minor things but nothing I'd write home about. Overall it was one of the best holidays we've had

Only valuables in my case will be rum and cigars biggrin

On that note, any cigar recommendations?
Have been to Cuba previously too and have tried a few of those but never any Dominicans.

Yes insured thankfully!

Not sure about cigars I don't smoke but there looked to be plenty to choose from. The rum started earlier and earlier as the days went by, 10.30am was the accepted threshold beer

We were given them in flight and the morning of departure to fill in at reception too, with Thomson.

Agree about valuables in carry on too. We were advised by our rep that as it is quite a poor country, stuff often disappears from hold luggage.

37 degrees at 10am the day we left! Start of June.

Do hire a car, exploring is a real eye opener. City is a crazy place, the poverty in some areas is amazing. Under the motorway bridges live a whole different crowd.
As the hire guy said when we asked do they drive on the left or right, 'yes'.
Lights are optional after dark and 3 up motorbikes on the wrong side of the motorway with no lights very common.

Touristy bit the dophin park was very good, actually get in the sea with seals, stingray and for a bit extra dolphins. Finish up with a floating bar, the entertainers on the boat were very good.
