Good Evening,

Next month me and the mrs are going on a nice jaunt over the atlantic - visiting family in Charlotte, heading to Vegas for 4 nights then going onto Miami, Jamaica, Cayman Islands and then back up through Miami/Orlando before returning home...

Anyway the whole trip has been easy to book apart from the Vegas hotel, I still cannot decide....any advice appreciated.

- FIL loves Wynn/Encore. Have to say it looks appealing, great rooms, good price, good amenities. HOWEVER, I am concerned that its a bloody long walk to everything?
- BIL loves Vdara. Much cheaper and just a hotel. Modern room, good central position. Cheaper price free's up few hundred quid to splurge on other things?....
- Wife likes the look of Bellagio, good price, fountains, central position etc. Classic Vegas? i.e she remembers it from Oceans 11.
- I like the look of the Palazzo, but concerned that its similar to Wynn/encore as its 3/4 way up the strip.

It will be our first trip to Vegas, we're both young (26), but we're not looking to party all night long. We'll be wanting to explore everything, eat well, watch a show etc.

What do you think?

Cheers.

The Wynn and Encore are about 10 mins walk from Bellagio. No big deal

I stayed at the Bellagio this summer. Loved it. Slip the check in person $20 with your ID and ask for a room upgrade. We got a fountain view room at the front which was brilliant.

The Wynn is a fair walk away from the other group of casinos. It's not that far in distance but depending on temperature outside it may as well be 100miles! In Feb it will prob be not too bad though.

Soak the place up. It's fantastically ridiculous.

The Wynn is a spectacular property. Everything from the pools, restaurants, casino etc. is wonderful.

I personally don't rate the Bellagio from a guest perspective.... it is always so busy that doing anything is constantly a pain.

I do enjoy Caesars but again, it is very busy but spectacular to lounge by the pool etc.

When we go to Vegas now, we either stay in a Hilton property (due to literally thousands of points) or we stay at the Tump as we don't gamble and simply drive to where we want to go.

The pool at the Trump is nice and relaxed and the rooms / service are excellent.

Venetian has the central location with the same/similar standard of rooms as the Wynn. worth checking out.

Ok, thanks for your input.

Having spoke to another friend who went last year and looking on the web we have taken Bellagio off our list.

Id say we have to choose between Encore or Palazzo.

General consensus is that Encore/Wynn is the much nicer property overall, although the rooms as the Palazzo are a bit bigger (makes no odds to me really).
However Palazzo is so called a little more lively and is in bit of a better location.
Other concerns is that Encore/Wynn might be a little pricey to eat? Whilst I am more than happy to splash out from time to time I dont want to be looking at the prices before I choose the actual meal. Where as Palazzo has a better spread?

Can any of you lot give me a direct comparison on the two? Encore or Palazzo.

ETA - Ive now had another person say that the Cosmopolitan is worth a look, and I have also found a good deal?

Stayed at the Cosmo in 2012, with a room overlooking the Bellagio fountains.
Stylish and a bit minimalist compared to other casinos but very good. There are rumours of shady goings on in the bars and clubs of the Como but we never picked up on anything untoward.

For me, the 'theatre' of the hotel is the fun thing in Vegas. F'rinstance, last February me and Mrs Blib stayed at Caesar's for a couple of nights on our arrival just because it's silly and is the Grand Old Lady of the theme hotels. Then, on our return to the city for our homeward flight, we stayed at the Venetian because it's ridiculous.

We're heading back to Vegas for a road trip with Master Blib in July. We asked him to choose our hotel for our first couple of nights before we head out to Death Valley and then California. He's 12, he picked New York, New York because it looked fun to him. It is a bit of a dump -relatively - and not one I would stay at if it were my choice. But, it's "New York" in a hotel and we'll have fun for a couple of days.

At the end of our road trip, on our return to Vegas for our flight back home, we're staying once more in the Venetian. Because it's ridiculous.

Encore is phenomenal. Better than the Bellagio is every single way apart from location. The walk isn't that far and helps to work off all the food and drink!

We had a standard room and the view was fantastic. Room was stunning, hotel itself is brilliant.

We stayed at Caesars in November. We upgraded into the Augustus towers and got a room with a fountain view. This was our view;

The room was excellent. Absolutely massive and very comfortable. The hotel was great too. Stunning pool areas and a decent casino, although it was a bit quiet during the week. If you enjoy shopping it also has the benefit of the Forum Shopping mall which is attached to the hotel. The best thing about Caesar's though is the location. Smack bang centre of the strip. My only complaint would be that it is a bit quiet for my liking at nights. Everything is a bit classy and refined so I missed the rowdiness you get in other hotels, MGM as an example. When we go back this year I think we will stay at New York New York or The Linq.

Wynn Encore Towers is excellent. Had a business trip there and got a suite upgrade, but whole facility is absolutely first class.

When it comes to food in Vegas, you have literally everything at your disposal - however that means that in hotels that compete to offer clients a world class experience, expect to pay world class prices for food that is by and large, world class. Remember that all of the large 5 star properties will be comparatively priced when it comes to food and drinks. There is a huge amount of money in vegas and people do spend big.

That being said, there are options for all price points and the valet service at all casinos and ample parking around Vegas means most will travel to different properties to dine / drink anyway. Your resident hotel is really just for sleeping - unless you book into a 'chain' property, like the MGM for example, where you can charge back to your room from multiple properties. - This is of benefit if you are a big gambler and are on the properties dime, where you never leave their properties but enjoy all their amenities and food etc. without having to settle the bill smile

However, in your situation, I would recommend traveling to other properties just for the experience. The food in the Encore is excellent and I believe has one of the best steak houses in Vegas, but getting a good steak in Vegas isn't too difficult.

Choosing your hotel in Vegas is all down to what you want to do, do you enjoy gambling? Relaxing by the pool? Restaurants? Shopping? A quiet night? That's what's great about Vegas, anything you want to do, you can do, just make up your mind wink

Even Yusain Bolt would struggle to get between the 2 on foot in 10mins. More like 30mins.

For a first trip I'd vote for the Bellagio (with a strip view room, of course) as you'll be in the centre of the Strip and see all the bright lights from your room rather than a view from the Wynn of a vacant dirt lot where the Stardust used to be.

Recommend the Palazzo but do the upgrade to Prestige room. $100 extra per room per night but includes separate check in floor which saves queueing, lots of discounts on restaurants, free buffet breakfast, gym, phone calls, internet, separate lounge for free snacks and coffee all day which at night is open for free cocktails (except tips) for a couple of hour, makes SWMBO`s champagne bearable. Got it booked myself last 4 nights in April.

Stayed at the Palazzo over New Year 2013/2014.

Stayed up in the Prestige. It's own reception which helps as the queues can be long down at the entrance.

You get your own executive lounge which has the snacks and canapés. throughout the day and evening. Rooms are called 'suites' but I would describe them as very large rooms, but still very very comfortable with plenty of room.

As it joins on to the Venetian you get a huge choice of eating and shopping without leaving the property and another Mall across the junction, Would highly recommend.

It might be a longer walk to the 'heart' of the new strip but you plenty to look at if you walk on side of the Boulevard one way and the other side on the return journey.

I cant really comment on the gambling or the pool as Im not one for gambling or lounging by a pool. Although I do enjoy soaking up the casino floor atmosphere.

My wife and I have just booked two nights in Vegas to bookend a Utah road trip, stating in NY NY and the Mirage. NY NY looks like a bit of fun and fancy a go on the roller coaster and my wife liked to look of the Mirage last time we were there. Stayed in Treasure Island last time, wouldn't recommend it...

You didn't say what month you're planning to be there? -makes a big difference, as does whether you'll have a rental car.

I ALWAYS have a car in vegas, in the evenings taxi lines can be long, and I like the freedom.

My general answer to your question, is Wynn, end of.

More precisely, Bellagio is getting a bit old and tatty, Palazzo is a close second, Caesars is massively over priced and trading on its name. You could try Aria out, rooms are pretty nice, and location is decent. If you do plan on walking everywhere (and really why would you?!) Aria would be my pick. Not Vdara, doesnt even have a casino!

p.s. Tell your wife, classic vegas is downtown, not the Bellagio!

Depends on your age. At my age I know nothing about the place, but my first memories of Vegas is seeing well known resorts in movies. So that is classic Vegas to us...

Going in March. Might get a Camaro or Corvette for a day to go exploring out of town, but didn't plan on getting one just to get around the place.

As for walking. I've never been before but the distances on the map give me a good idea of walking times. Whilst it's a fair old stroll around the place it doesn't look necessary to drive everywhere (unless of course you are going right from one end of the strip to the other or you are planning to stay in one place all night).

I'll have another look at the palazzo later, how does the Venetian compare to all this. As for Vdara, not too concerned that it doesn't have the casino - there isn't a shortage in the area wink
