Well, we have Karnival coming up here in Germany and it's a time that I absolutely loathe. Stupid drunken idiots all being 'happy' biggrin

So I'm thinking about buggering off to a little remote cottage in Scotland (preferably on the coast), for 5 - 7 days, to sit and drink a wee dram whilst I contemplate the meaning of life.

Anyone know of anything or have any good tips on websites or where else to look please?

Scotland's a big place with a lot of Coast and thousands of cottages for you to rent. We use cottages4you quite a lot.

We went there a couple of years back. It's where they filmed the series "Monarch of the Glen". If you take a 4x4 you can explore the whole estate - we did more than 400km off-road. nuts

My God, the eagle bay one looks nice - having some buyers remorse over my suggestion now.

A little more basic/rustic than the above one, but its an Island. Not technically a private island, as anyone can go there, but that's the only house on it. Me and SWMBO will be honeymooning there in the spring

You want remote? Have a look at this baby. I stayed here for a week. Not far to Skye and coast etc

Driveway approx 10 miles long, takes 45 mins (must have 4x4) and you pass no other houses or people.

Utterly peaceful and beautiful. Take food in a cool box, you wont want to be popping to the shop for milk every morning.

I've stayed here too... it's a bit different but if you like biking, canoeing etc then this is really nice and very very quiet.

I could be wrong but I think you're right on the edge of Feb half-term school break...so you may struggle.

Stupid question, but does it have to be Scotland?

I ask as these cottages are pretty good and also available:

http://www.holidaycottageinnorthumberland.co.uk/

Right on the edge of Northumberland National Park and about an hour away from quite a few interesting sights (Alnwick Castle, Holy Island, Hadrian's Wall).

The cottages are really nice and it is really peaceful smile

We stay here for a week each year, about a mile outside Torridon on a private estate. One of the cottages is lochside. We normally stay in Gardener's Cottage.

Torridon

Also had a really good time here last year, on the Applecross coast road.

Have a look at http://norsehaven.com/view/ceannabeinne-cottage.as...

We stayed here a few years ago & it was perfect. Remote, by the coast, lovely cottage with woodburning stove, Aga etc. Empty roads & stunning scenery. Ticks many of my boxes. Would go back tomorrow if I could.
