Just had a look at the Swedish congestion charge site.

Plus the Motala bridge towards the northern end of Lake Vättern east coast.

We have a wedding to go to in Sweden in July. We enjoy driving holidays, so figured we could drive there stopping along the way.

It's a fair old way at 1200 miles, so we're thinking we could get a ferry over to somewhere like Norway or Denmark and do most of the driving once we're there. Copenhagen, Gothenburg etc.

Anyone done a trip like this before, due to it being so vast, it's going to take a long time to figure out what ferries might be best. So after some advice on route etc.
I lived in Denmark and latterly Sweden , used to be able to get a boat to Esbjerg in Denmark from Harwich but they have stopped that now I am sure Gothenburg is still running , great roads and stunning scenery but heavy police presence and hefty on the spot fines

Or for the full on Euro blast Dover Calias then through the fatherland to Puttgarden boat accross to Rodby 1:30 hours then up to Copenhagen a city not to be missed , then across the bridge to MAlmo Sweden

Avoid Norway, there is no pleasure in driving here. Speed limits are low and fines are heartbreaking. Driving standards are shyte.

I had immense pleasure in driving to Trondheim from Åre in the winter in a low powered Polo on a mix of snow, ice and driving winds, with full snow tyres. There was not one moment I reached the speed limit... wink

Enormous fun.

Probably helped by the "practice" of driving a 911 C2 on a frozen lake the whole of the previous day.

You been over here? Huge amount of fun depending where you are. By far my best driving trip is heading over some of the mountain and fjord roads out here. There's one part where you can do 5 mountain passes with roads like this the whole way:

One of the passes is Trollstigen...

Low limits, but on some of the country roads you wouldn't want to be doing too much more anyway. In regards to where I am in the north apart from one average speed camera around 10km away there isn't another for approximately 2 hours driving in any direction, and I've never seen a police speed check in the 2 years I have been here. Driving standards are far better than the UK IMO. The only problem is German and Dutch tourists in the summer, they they block the road with the caravans and the awesome winding roads make it harder to overtake.

Over here Sweden is for making distance quickly but boring forests, Norway is slower but fun roads and awesome views.

....and the Latvian lorries on summer tyres struggling to get up any kind of gradient, and using 4 liters of screen wash a day.
