Great thread, just sent a reservation request to Zit for June.

Do they have any interesting cars on their books? and do you have a choice of cars once there?

Thanks for the feedback, has anyone used

www.economycarhire.com

they were mentioned on tripadvisor and seem to offer a reasonable price?

I appreciate they are a broker so not direct which always gives a slight fear that your car will not be there....
The last time I used them at Faro, their broker (who operated out of a an abandoned car in the car park) supplied an un-roadworthy car with no alternative.

www.economycarhire.com were as useful as a chocolate teapot and completely distanced themselves from the issue, denying there was a problem until I provided photographic proof. Even then there was no apology, they just stopped communicating.

The cars are all crap, and you'll get what you're given.

A mate of mine uses Zit a lot and hasn't had any bother. The last few times I've used Enjoy, they have been reasonable.

actually the cars are not crap for what they are ie basic transport, ours was brand new last year, and you will get a car from the particular category/group you choose to book from.

I'm not saying I've had any bad experience with Zit - in fact I recommended them earlier. I"m just saying the cars are going to be generally crap. Which is fine if you want a cheapest price possible for basically nothing more than transport between airport and hotel. Expect older cars, expect boring models, expert poverty spec.

I've been hiring from Drive4Fun (budget company) for years and can honestly say I've only ever had one vehicle that was a little bit older than normal, however absolutely nothing wrong with it anyway, Have just booked an entry level car for the M-F leading up to Easter weekend 50 euro all in,

I guess for 50 euros all I'd be expecting was for the car to have a genuine MOT and not break down while I had it - anything else is a bonus.

Going by previous experience, it will probably be newish Fiat Panda or Micra which will be perfect for shopping runs and general pottering around, Obviously I could go to Hertz and get something similar for 191 euro, or I could stick with the 50 euro rental and ask the car company to swap the vehicle at point of collection if I'm not happy with it !!!

Zit have just come back to me with 130 Euros (basic car for a week (30th May to 6th June), seems about the average for all the firms.
Will try Drive 4 fun if there that cheap, and as KFC says as long as its run and is safe at that kind of price you can't complaine.

I've read a few reviews on GoldCar are they actually as bad as people are reporting, some of the stories are horrific!

a lot of the bad reports for car hire places are just going to be down to stupidity of the renter. Ie not reading the fuel policy or making a mess of which type of insurance they want etc.

As long as you read up on what you need and factor that into the quote properly, the companies here are all much the same.

In all fairness car supplied was ok, however got caught with the fuel scam and additional insurances (my own fault for not checking, last minute decision to go), not to mention the fact that we had a stupidly long wait at the point of collection and drop off, which considering we were only at the villa for a few days was ridiculous

Used to go to the Algarve every other year and used Auto Jardim and never had any problems and they weren't too fussy if you brought a car back with the odd scratch plus they have a proper office just outside the arrivals area and usually hassle free with little or no queues plus you are shown around the car. A little bit more expensive but ou get what you pay for.

Last year we used AirAuto and they were just pants. Operate out of a porta cabin in car park 4 alongside numerous other companies (the same porta cabin I hasten to add which means confusion and long queues). Car was a grand punto which had seen better days and covered in dents and scratches where the inevitable happened on handback with them finding a 'new' scratch and promptly stiffed me. My own fault I suppose as I should have checked more thoroughly but I was knackered. A fact they rely on, IMO.

Had Allianz excess insurance and they paid up no bother on returning home and I would recommend them wholeheartedly.
