Hey guys,

I'm looking for a travel bag, in the region of 50-60 litres. Specifically, i want one that you can open out like a suitcase, as opposed to one that only has access from the top or bottom, does anyone know what this feature is called!?

I'll also be needing a day bag around 25-30 litres, preferably one that can collapse down into a larger bag.

Recommendations welcomed and appreciated!

Cheers,

Simon

The big bag clearly not for flights? 32kg is max they do for H&S.

Can you really lift 55-60kg its a big weight I'd not want to bend in and lift that out of the boot -- reminds me of the big old cement bags they ruined my back doing that

Litres, not kg. A 50-60L rucksack is mid-size.

Litres is the volume of storage, not weight capacity!

North Face used to do luggage that was both a suitcase and a rucksack and had a smaller daypack that zipped onto it.

Might be worth checking out the Osprey Farpoint Series - packs which fully open like suitcases, and have a zip-on daysack. The Farpoint 70 has a 55 litre capacity, with a 15 litre daysack (maybe a bit small for your needs?):

There's also the Ozone 70 if you want some wheels on your luggage:

From my experience, the Osprey stuff is well made and comfy to haul about.

Excellent, thanks! The Farpoint 55 looks ideal for my needs. It seems to have good reviews and is in budget. I might just find a collapsible day bag that i can squeeze into the Osprey bag, despite the removable 10 litres on the Osprey.

I have some dakine luggage, I use the 'split roller' as my hold luggage bag. really sturdy piece of luggage, decent storage compartments inside, can easily get ski stuff (boots jacket trousers....) and clothes and other bits and pieces for a holidays/trips absolutely no problem.

Something like this? Might be a bit basic but I gather it's well thought of:

Lowe Alpine TT Carry On 40

Can remove or conceal the carrying straps and has internal straps to compact clothes down.

Has a bazzilion pockets and reduces down to nothing.

It's the perfect carry on bag, but if it's full can be a bit top heavy if using it as a backpack.

You might be thinking of a duffel bag too ? Helly Hensen do great ones, just make sure you have your name on, or something to identify it on the carousel, just about all Scandinavians have one, there's often one of two on a flight.

The North Face Camp Duffel bags probably worth a look for your 'open like a suit case' and especially your 'collapse down in to a larger bag' requirements.

Small is 42L - http://www.thenorthface.co.uk/tnf-uk-en/base-camp-...
Medium is 72L - http://www.thenorthface.co.uk/tnf-uk-en/base-camp-...

Available in a range of colours from boring to just offensive.
