Has someone stole your airplane seat?

My mate did it when fairly pissed. He was supposed to be flying to Amsterdam and in his words "knew he was in trouble when he got off the plane and saw mountains". He actually ended up in Switzerland!
I,ve been on a flight sat down ready to go and a passenger has realised they're on the wrong one and had to get off.
That has happened to me twice, both times at Aberdeen, once the passenger realised she was on th ewrong plane and another when the cabin crew asked for the passenger who was flying to Paris to make himself known, the plane we were on was going to Amsterdam.I,ve been on a flight sat down ready to go and a passenger has realised they're on the wrong one and had to get off.
Anyone who has flown from Aberdeen would understand how this could happen, though recently they have taken steps to prevent passengers on different flights mixing.

Every single flight we have been on in the last 5 or 6 years we have seen people having to do this. It really isn't that hard. We have a bit of a thing about taking back local foods and drinks and so have invested a whole £5 in a set of digital luggage scales. As for the oversized bags I must say that in the last 12 months I have noticed much more policing of this at the gate, if not at the check in. I have seen quite a few huffy people given the choice of pay up or fly without your stuff...

We had a similar incident a few years ago when coming back from Mallorca. Huge (overweight) woman, husband and two kids tried to get a 32kg bag on as hand luggage. They did this because they thought it would skirt the hold luggage weight rules.Anyway, after an argument with the check-in staff they realised that they would have to leave some of the stuff in the case behind because they said they couldn't pay for the extra weight (even though they were carrying lots of extra weight between them). The big woman unpacked everything near the check-in line and began sorting through it. Took ages as there was stuff everywhere.
It transpired that the itmes in the bag consisted of lots of things they had bought whilst on holiday (bottles of alchohol, toys, sweets etc). They were very annoyed that they had 'wasted' money on stuff they couldn't take back.
Very odd.

On a recent flight to Finland, I was sitting in my usual aisle seat near the front of economy when a lady with two kids boarded and moved into the centre seat and window seat next to me. The smaller kid was going to be on her knee. Almost immediately the CC lady asked me if I minded moving to a spare seat at the very back of the plane to allow the lady to have all three seats - the flight was busy but not completely full. She also helpfully asked if I wanted help moving my bag. 'No problem' says I, "I'll leave it there and pick it up on the way out"
You can probably work out what happened when we landed ; remote stand and buses so both doors open. Now, the Finnish are not known for their happy-go-lucky nature but you should see them when some bloke is trying to move down the aircraft against the flow of the tide to get his bag ! Maybe I should have got off the rear of the plane and ran round to the front but didn't think of it at the time. Anyway, lesson learned - keep your bag with you !

The one reason I try to get on the plane early is to make sure I have somewhere to put my own regulation sized carry on, before the selfish fvcktards roll on with their huge rollalongs, double or triple the regulation carry on size/limit.
And the 'beauty' of it all, the single cell hosties simply let them walk right past the bag size measurement device, and roll on by onto the plane.
Get to the gate towards the end of boarding, and the same dumb hosties start taking bags off people as the greedy, selfish a$$holes have already taken all the room!
I reasonably regularly take Ryanair Stansted to Eindhoven. Usually in out in a day so computer backpack only. Even on an overnight I just have clean pants socks and shirt in the same backpack. There was one flight where the CC came along asking people with small bags to put them under their seats as all the huge (way over size) that the holiday crowd were bringing on wouldn't all fit.
One chap a few rows infront with a small bag told them to stuff it and so did I. Being 6" tall I hardly fit in the seats never mind having a bag under my feet. We told them to measure the bags and place in hold any too big, then if there still wasn't space we would happily put our bags under our feet. Of course they didn't as that would involve upsetting chavs rather than business travellers.
The size of some of the bags is amazing. Put the gate staff on a bonus for it and you just know all the piss taking would end.

I do it after the 3rd time I found someone in my seat and we both had the same boarding pass, and it was touch and go if there would be a seat for me.I've also had the wrong person on the plane thing too, although that was some years ago and on a domestic flight in the US.

Unless you know you're carrying a lot, scales and weighing bags is not needed IMO. You'd notice if it's nearing 10kg.
I have never, and will never tell my OH premier economy are allowed two 22kg bags each.By the way, I do think they should police more closely the size of bags some passengers take on as cabin baggage, some are so OTT.

Holiday crowd to Eindhoven?!?! Although I guess maybe the ones returning, and the Dutch are well known for their arrogance... Anyway, I digress, I too often fly STN to Göteborg and the flight is never full but if you aren't sat near the front there never seems to be any locker space. The last few times I have managed to get moved right to the front extra legroom rows that haven't been paid for when I point out I don't want to leave an expensive holdall at the front of the plane without me.
Me too, I'll look out for you. .. brother lives there. Have you also noticed how the miserable bunch tape of the first couple of rows. ..just so they can cram everyone into a more confined area. .Edited by BrabusMog on Tuesday 7th April 18:06
A colleague and I were flying from Florida to Buffalo, one flight but with a short refuelling stop en route, where we all had to disembark for 30 minutes. Half full plane, plenty of seat space.
When we re boarded, completely by accident we sat in the wrong seats, 1 row forward of where we had been on the first leg.
A sole traveller, who had been sitting in front of us, i.e. were we were now sitting, on the first leg re boarded and started having a go at the guy sitting in front of us now, for taking his seat.
We just sat there biting our lips whilst the argument ensued, until the displaced passenger gave up and sat somewhere else.........

Boarded a charter flight, only to find a couple sat in my friends' seats. Cabin crew were concerned they were already quite merry and and asked if my friends would just take their seats instead, rather than 'disturb' them... Much to my dismay, they obliged - so I got lumbered with the pissed people.
5 minutes into the flight, the girl shouted something at her fella, and decided to throw her bottle against the seat in front of her... Not too surprisingly, it bounced back and cut her on the head... The bloke seemed more reasonable - we struck up conversation (whilst his missus sobbed under a blanket), and it turned out we were staying in the same hotel - arse!
A couple of days later the chap tracked me down at breakfast... It turned out they'd split-up (after a drunken moped accident - this could have been an early script from the Inbetweeners movie) and he was pleading to be allowed to stop on our floor - bks to that!..
He ended up at another hotel elsewhere on the island. Seeing as we were the only people she (vaguely) knew the girl started hanging out with us, making a point of getting her rather fine norks out for us at every opportunity.
I drew the line at trying to smash her back doors in - in hindsight, whilst a bit of a BOBFOC, had I thought that I'd be recounting the story 14 years later on PH, I'd have gone for it for the extra man points! ;o)

I fly twice-weekly within Asia, it happens a lot - Mainland Chinese are almost 100% the culprits, they then feign total ignorance, kick up a stick and then eventually move. Sometime they move to someone else's seats and I've seen them be moved 3 times on one particular flight. Worst travelers in existence.

TBH a lot of our travel is inside Europe and we like to buy funny Vodkas and local delicacies to take back with us. As such we tend to like to know what we have on the way out to know what we can buy out there and then double check before we get to check in.On the way back from Spain last year we were within 100g of our limit between carry on and hold luggage
Re the poster who mentioned using your bathroom scales - hotels don't tend to have them as a rule so on the way back it's a pita or a gamble. I said £5 for our scales, honestly I think that they were more like £2.99.
