Ok guys flame me if need be!

I'm going on holiday later in the year its my only trip away.

Single trip insurance - £37.75 defaqto 5* policy

Annual cover from any provider at this level is over £120 for myself and partner.

Any drawbacks to just using single trip cover?

Concern is I'm going to morocco and want to make sure I'm adequately covered in case of unrest whilst I am there or cancellation. If my insurance starts when my trip starts am i covered if my trip is cancelled before the insurance start date?

Wasn't bothered by the unrest until i saw the government advice.

If you go to any country against foreign office publicly notified warning of a specific threat the insurance is void

The Morroco stu f is juts general advice

We went to Marrakesh in January and had a terrific time without any hint or threat of political unrest or any threat of crime.

It's a very moderate westernised Muslim country with close ties to France.

The normal tourist advice applies. Don't behave like an idiot or dumb foreigner. Leave your valuables in the hotel safe. Be prepared to be ripped off in the souk. be friendly at all times and respectful of local customs.

If you're bothered by a hawker - politely smile and say "La shuchran" ("no thank you" . Or speak schoolboy French. "Ou i, Non, Merci, S'il vice play. Ou et - etc etc)

I know that but morocco is not in that situation

see below for Syria which is.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to Syria. British nationals in Syria should leave now by any practical means. The FCO is not able to provide consular services, and won’t be able to help your evacuation from the country.

Have a look at Alpha Insurance who treat Morocco as part of Europe - might save a few quid smile

I use cheap insurance (mainly for cancellations, medical etc) and for three holidays a year, 3 x single is cheaper than 1 x annual.
So it depends on how many times you're planning on going, given getting policies online is a 2 minute job.

Syria? Insurance is going to be the least of your problems (unless it covers you for ransom money and a funeral0.

The cancellation section of a single trip travel insurance policy starts from when you buy the policy, not the date you are due to go on holiday. But on an annual policy it starts from the inception date of the policy.

Also my annual policy automatically renewed last year, alot more than getting a new one would cost. I never knew they done this, and to cancel it once auto renewed, i would be charged an admin fee of just short the cost of the full insurance.

I just renewed our annual policy (Mrs and I).

I priced up as single trip and the annual policy was only twice as much as the single trip. I want winter sports included and this is the part I always read the fine print of so I'm covered for off piste etc. Doing it this way works out good value as I'll ski 2-3 weeks a year, have a cheap week in the sun and a 'big' holiday usually.

WHy do you auto renew? If you don't they will remind you at least 4 weeks ahead of the renewal date and then you can negotiate.
