They’re both Airbnb with good reviews but the type of accommodation isn’t the point of the question.

Would you rather have been in the middle of the old town? smile

You should stay in the old town or just across the tram line at Massena for the short time you're there. No point going anywhere else.

I would stay in the old town. The accommodation is only a base for exploring rather than the holiday experience.
We stayed near the Jean Medicin tram stop in October and it was a good location for everything we needed.

Many moons ago we stayed further out (near Cocoon Beach) and it was too far out and a bit of a grim inner city experience.

I was starting to think that, old town is still near beaches too. Apartment was near Le Negresco so not that far out but I did a streetview and yeah even the beach path just goes past a lot of non-descript buildings (albeit a lot more descript than the buildings in my home town!).

I would personally opt for the apartment a mile to the west. We’ve stayed in Nice a number or times over the years, and the last couple of times but one we were in the Radisson Blu on the Promenade des Anglais, which was a couple of miles from the old town; we chose this hotel because of the sea views and the roof top pool. We’ve checked the rates over the last couple of years and they are insane, so I doubt we will stay there again!

We either enjoyed the 45 min walk along the Promenade, or we used the velo blue bikes, which were really handy when they worked, but quite a few had issues. They were free so long as you retuned them within 30 minutes, but even after that they were really cheap. It will depend on want you want; I personally don’t like staying in really busy confined areas, so would definitely opt for the apartment a bit further out. The last time we went to the South of France we actually ended up staying in a great modern airbnb studio in Antibes (actually a 45 min walk from the centre but less to the train stop to Nice) because it had a small pool, and we like walking. It also had a great Pizzeria someone operated out of their garage nearby, and you could eat in their garden on some plastic furniture….it doesn’t sound great but we loved it. We would get the train half way to Nice centre and then hire a bike for the rest. I love the south of France.

I’m sure whatever you do you will have a great time.

The last sentence is probably the key bit, and staying in the old town would cut an hour or two walking out of my days based on what I'm reading. As long as I can get into the sea fairly quickly I'll be happy. And to be honest having some tall buildings around me sheltering from the sun would be fairly useful in the middle of the day!

Didn't realise it wasn't a sandy beach before I booked the train though. smile Are the pebbles at least small enough that you can lie on them on a towel for a while?

In places yes. If not, plenty of blue chairs to go at!

The tram is useful. It ends at Port Lympia which is interesting in its own right. From there you can catch a bus to Cap Ferrat which is nice to walk around and I think has some sandy beaches.

Cool, I'll have a bike with me one day and be heading east anyway so will check out Cap Ferrat.

You will be fine with a couple of towels. The only issue is getting in and out of sea….the stones are like torture on your feet, not helped by the fact there is an incline at the edge, which is why some of the beaches next to the hotels have anchored ropes you can use to help you out!

I’m guessing that helps keep the riffraff away though, apparently the locals have rejected the idea of sand for years. smile

I'd go with a rental over hotel, you can sit on the balcony with a nice glass of red/beer and relax!

I've got 6 days booked on CDZ in April and can't wait to get over again.

Antibes is a nice town and one we didn't see much of last year so will be again, im even trying to find something decent to stay in but everything seems more expensive and Juan Les pins seems quite scarce on properties central.

In general rentals are far higher price wise this year, which I think may be due to tax changes made.

BTW We've got a 3 year old so Cannes is ok and offers quiet enough beaches, it's got enough choice for main meals and to scoff ice creams/cakes/crepes etc in between meals biggrin

Ended up with an apartment just off the corner of Place Rossetti so looks like a great location. Top floor so low ceilings but to be honest if I'm in the apartment I'll be lying down anyway and there is a balcony to sit out on. Literally two and a half days there so will have to hit the ground running, luckily no family in tow so can set my own schedule!

Elton John has a place on Mount Boron, never knew this until after.

This year we'll have a look over Mount Boron at night I think for some pictures.

If you want a sandier beach catch the bus/train to Villefranche-sur-Mer - lovely village just along the coast which has a nice beach and clear blue sea to swim in.
