A week in Thailand
Discussion
I'm getting married in August, and for the honeymoon we thought a trip to Thailand might be fun.
The plan would be to spend a couple of nights on an island / beach villa, then a couple of nights in Bangkok, then another couple of nights on a different island.
Has anyone done anything similar, or could anyone offer advice on where we should stay?
Are there agencies that would arrange something like this, or are we better off organising the individual parts ourselves?

I spent 3 weeks there in December/January before moving on but was on the move every 4 days on average. You could do a few nights in Bangkok, Koh Samui (direct flight) and a few more in Koh Tao (my favourite island) you could also fly to Krabi and go to Railay but apart from a stunning beach and location not a great deal to do.
Easy enough to DIY everything, but bear in mind it's a big place and going by bus or ferry takes time. Does it really have to be 1 week?

If you go to Krabi look at staying here:

Brilliant. Food amazing. Your very own 5* "hut". Spent a very relaxing week there a good few years ago.

A week is pushing it for a two-centre holiday. You'll spend a day travelling back to BKK from an island resort.
Either have a blow-out on one of the islands (a week at the W in Koh Samui would be brilliant)
Or just do Bangkok. Plenty to see and do. Base yourself at a hotel with a nice pool and you can have the best of both.

Sort-of agree with above:-
- Flying from 1 place to another will take effectively a day, between packing, unpacking, travel to/from airports, checking in, waiting and then flying. So if you have only got a week, and bear in mind 7hr time difference and the jet lag, plus being knackered after your wedding (assuming you're going out next day or so...), then I'd be picking single-site relaxing. Or better still finding another week or so...
- Bangkok could use up 3-4 days of your time easily - lovely place, stunning palace and Wat Arun in particular, but is it honeymoon destination?!?
- Krabi / Rayavadee - the hotel absolutely - heard tons of great things about it. Krabi province has some great beaches / towns and some OK ones...so research carefully.
- Time of year - apologies if I missed it - check when rainy season is - differs by 1-2 months from one side of the country to the other.

November - April weather is best on the West Coast (Andaman Sea)..
May – Sept weather is best on the East Coast (Gulf Coast)
Koh Samui, Koh Phangan (East Coast) should have better weather than Krabi (West coast) in July/August. But the weather is unpredictable at that time of year.
I personally (30 years old) wouldn't spend more than a day or two in Bangkok, its such a full on city that it really takes it out of you. Most things can be done in a day and best done on the first or last day of hols.
I would suggest Koh Samui, Koh Phangan (north) or Koh Tao.

At the beginning of March did 3 nights in Bangkok and another 7 nights on Phuket.
Two full days with a dedicated guide in Bangkok let us hit the tourist stuff we wanted to see but it was hectic, it could be done on your own but at 40 pound per day for the guide it let us see more than we would have on our own.
We arrived early in Bangkok so had most of the day looking around Suhkumvit, Soi Cowboy area then two days with the guide and flew to Phuket on the fourth day, we were glad to get to Phuket to relax.
It wasn't too relaxing as we did sea canoeing and a snorkeling trip but we had a couple of days just walking around and taking tuk tuks/taxis to see a bit of the island.
Bangkok is great and certainly worth seeing but honestly a two centre, or three as you proposed is too much in a week, I wish we had given ourselves another day in Bangkok, the 7 nights on Phuket was about right.
Good luck and I enjoy Thailand, I know we did and are already planning to go back.

My girlfriend is currently travelling out there, and I visited only 3 weeks ago. I loved both Koh Samui and Koh Tao. GF said Koh Tao has been her favourite so far, but wouldn't recommend Krabi.
Can you not do longer than a week, as I think with flights etc it will be a bit of a whirlwind.
