I'm taking my son to see Passion Pit at the Electric Ballroom in Camden on Thursday night. We're travelling down from Cheshire so will probably end up coming down either the M40 of M1.

Just wondering the best way to get in and out without crawling though traffic. Ideally I'll park on the outskirts of London and Tube in and out. Where's the best place to park to Tube in and what time would the last Tube be at night?

Thanks smile

Probably park at Hillingdon as that's just off the A40/M40 and tube it in. Last Southbound train from Camden Town is 00:25 and that will take you to Kings X, the last Met Line train towards Hillingdon is 00:22.

Drive down M1, head for Edgware tube station, tube direct to Camden town.

The M1 has LOTS of roadworks, M40 may be quicker.

If parking at Hillingdon/Ickenham/Ruislip, tube to Swiss Cottage and then either walk or bus to Camden. It's a real pain going by tube all the way to Camden.

If you are coming in the M40/A40 then just as easy to drive to Camden IMHO, as you are against the traffic most of the way - just stay on the A40 to Marylebone Road then up through Regent's Park. Will probably take around the same time as a tube from Hillingdon, etc. and save a lot of time on the return leg.

Don't be tempted to leave the car in Regent's Park, as they may still lock the gates later in the evening. I've usually found around Gloucester Ave to be OK for parking, and an easy walk into Camden.

The Electric Ballroom is about 50 feet from Camden tube station. Camden Town is ONE stop from Euston on the Northern Line (black line on the map). You're better off with the train I'd say. If it's an evening thing you should be okay parking on back roads 5 or 10 minutes walk away (top of Oval Rd works well) if you do drive down.

There is a car park in Camden. Its an underground one. Not an NCP, but its on the Parking web sites. Its called Lomax Car Park on Pratt Street. Only a 5 minute walk from Camden High Street. I've been there several times and its never been full. Also, its not too expensive and much less faff than the tube even though it will take a little longer.

The spaces are a little tight though.

+1 off street parking will be free in the evening. I did that on a recent trip to the Roundhouse.

Ended up driving down the M1 to Jnc 4, 5 mins into Edgeware and parked in the Broadwalk Centre carpark. Then just a 20 min tube to Camden.

So many people seem to do this. Is it not like a 5+ hour journey each way and loads of hassle? Is it really worth it?

It can be if you're a fan of a band who might only be playing a show in London, as seems to happen. I did the same a few times in student days, but it was a round trip from Edinburgh at the time..

To the OP, how was the show? I'd seen Passion Pit play a festival in the States - didn't know who they were at the time, but they certainly sounded OK.

Getting the train means having to stay over night.
