25oC according to weather forecasts.
Is 25oC too hot to be a tourist and sight see?
Whenever i've been on holiday i've been to Spain, lying by the pool or at the beach.
Paris in January just gone was probably my first city break were we actually got about and covered alot of the city.

The above may seem to be a stupid question to some, I just don't want to go there and bake and not enjoy NewYork due to the heat.

I would say it's too hot in August, and too humid. I'm going in June- when I went in June a couple of years ago we had two days when it was too hot. Also that 25 is an average and the high is more likely to be 30.

It can get oppressive due to the sheer amount of concrete and reflective surfaces.

Last time I went in August it was 33-35 for the four days. It was quite uncomfortable apart from in Central Park and when there was a bit of a breeze.

New York in August? Not nice. You'll need a change of shirt and a shower every 20 minutes.

I'll pass then and try flr October/November.
August was the only time me and the Mrs could go but i'd rather experience New York were we are both comfortable walking x amount of miles per day.

About right I'd say - although November can mean snow.

Maybe it was an unusually cool August (2013) when I went, and it was very warm, but not unpleasant, and I did a huge amount of walking without it feeling oppressive.

NYC is amazing in the Spring and the Autumn......it can be hot/humid beyond it being comfortable in August and likewise can be unbelievably frigging cold in winter.

It depends really the weather can be changeable, most of the locals will bugger off to the beach etc and hotel rates are lower. It can of course be stinking hot so depends on your tolerance to the heat if is as such.

I wouldn't let it put me off necessarily, I've been to various cities when it's been very warm, Rome, Bangkok, was unseasonably hot in San Francisco on one trip 30+ Celsius. Rooms are air conditioned, as are malls, and big old building like museums if you need to escape the heat. Many cafes/restaurants have outdoor seating so easy to stop and enjoy a cold drink etc.

I prefer the neighborhoods rather than downtown/midtown, subway makes it very easy to get around.

I really can't believe how a place can have such extremes in weather. I was there in February and it was bloody cold, pretty much 14 fahrenheit everyday (-10 celsius) and it wasn't uncomfortable doing all the tourist stuff, just rather chilly!

I live in the NYC area. We have seen negative Fahrenheit to 115 in the same year. It's not just the high temps though. It's the humidity that hits you. The locals move from one air conditioned area to another in Summer. I'd hate to be a tourist in Augustbecause the pleasure of NYC is wondering around which I couldn't do in the heat

I've been to NYC in August a couple of times, we don't mind the heat so enjoyed it. The biggest problem we found was the air con. Wife and I had colds within 2 days, shopping on 5th Avenue, you're very hot, walk into the store, the AC is on full whack and you're chilled quickly, then step back out onto the hot sidewalk and repeat.

Central Park is superb in August, pop into FAO Schwarz to buy a frisbee, then spend the day in the park.

Not by choice but I was in NYC the last week of July/first week of August. Had to trek up to the North East of Canada for a funeral and flying into New York was the cheapest option given the holidays.

It was hot and humid, but not quite as bad as I expected. Wouldn't ever do it by choice though!
