That's low AND early. May the snow gods be with you.

Les Coches end of January for a week.

Thanks - the joys of needing a dog-friendly chalet!

Fortunately it is only 40m from the gondola up to 1850 so we can be at the top of Courchevel in 15 minutes from closing our front door.

We always book maximum 2 weeks before traveling, often just 1 week. That's when you get fantastic bargains in great ski areas. Don't fall for the hype of booking too early unless there is at least 6-8 or more in the group.

Which have you tried? We really enjoyed the Roc D'Enfer resorts (SJD + Bellevaux) when the snow is good. Plus Praz de Lys / Sommand is fun and family friendly.
Praz de Lys/Sommand is great to escape the crowds, Haven't done the Roc D'Enfer but is on the list.
We have mainly done the bigger ones around, Flaine, Megeve, Chamonix, etc. But this year as no ski school commitments for the littl'un we are more free to explore.
The free passes to other resorts that come with the Seasons pass are great!
I went to Chamonix this summer and couldn't believe the difference in price with lift passes. PDS summer day lift pass price = €8. Chamonix €60.

Roc D'Enfer is well recommended, especially now they have added a lift so you can complete the Tour without having to walk the last bit back to Grande Terche.

Being totally different to all above.....
We're heading back to Bansko (in Bulgaria) next March.
Skiing not particularly challenging but good enough for us 'senior citizens' but the food and drink in the old part of the Bulgarian town is excellent and worth the trip!!
It is, after all, a holiday

Totally agree on that approach. So many make such a trip like a job, with targets, goals, blablabla. Many forget such a trip is a vacation. There are even people who religously tick off piste maps and monitor their altitude every couple of minutes and then plot graphs on their laptops getting a cheap kick out of their total 'descent', hilarious and out of people I know all over Europe, only the Brits do this kind of stuff. It bemuses my German & Austrian colleagues.

Always booked in advanced. But I fancy a extra week in March with just the missus. Any tips on sites?

The lads trip to Saalbach has been in the bag for a while, but the family trip was sorted at the weekend. It's the first time taking the kids on a ski trip with us, they'll be 6 and 7 when they travel next year. We're off to Morzine in February. It's also the first time we'll have stayed in a catered chalet, which will hopefully make it a bit more relaxing. Just need to sort out rentals and ski school for the kids. The ones recommended by the chalet company seem rather expensive compared to ESF and Skiset.

4 weeks in Les Gets for me this year. It helps owning a chalet!
We will probably travel around a bit as there are some great hidden gems of resorts nearby.
Are you retired or a business owner who can leave management run it whole out of the country? Or simply no need to work? Very envious.

Simply a Typical PH director type, who happens to own the business and can work remotely if I really have to! Did 5 weeks last year!
Plus the money from my chalet rentals pays for it all.

What are these hidden gems you talk about? Or are they that good you can't say wink

27/2/16 for us.
We've been there many times and it is certainly a holiday with Skiing for us. Not sure if you've attacked all the runs but I'd not even attempt Tomba Black 9 my God is that steep and always icy blue for the competitions they hold on it.

Old town food is so good they really do this well - mulled wine however thy don't wink it's literally boiling red wine so we give that a miss.

Not sure if you have done the hidden locals cabin on the ski road ? If not its on the left hand side probably 3/5ths of the way down. You'll see it like a tee pee - dirt cheap beer and great food (though eating full meals in the mountain is cheap anyway this takes cheap to another level and it's where those in the know go).

We always ski in Austria. For the 1st few years we did France but after living in Austria discovered that the ski areas are much nicer in Austria together with the pretty villages, better food, better prices and better atmosphere. Try any Austrian ski area and you won't be disappointed.

We usually ski ALL the runs (not bad for a 65 year old!!) but enjoy the blues as much as the blacks....

Last time we were there (2014) the tee pee wasn't. We certainly looked out for it! Nothing like a chill out with a few beers and they also did superb crepes. At least the skiing excercise helps to keep the weight gain to a minimum

I quite like starting on the top Red and drift over to one of the top blue runs leading into run 10 into 12 cut through on orange dotted 2 do the tiny blue to avoid the too steep black and then red run into the ski road.

Followed by 4 swift beers at the Gondela base then back up for a different run.

In answer to the topic.

Me.

No idea! smile

We'll probably go late February as we find January just too cold some days (at least in Val!) and whilst I'd love to go to Austria again after years away, I suspect it'll be a French resort again as both the wife and I have expensive trips planned either side of the ski season.

Maybe time for Avoriaz again after some great holidays there in the past?

M.

Depends where you're based but there's always the Friday night over-night Eurostar from London to Bourg (6am)/Saturday night (10pm) train back...
