Who is going skiing and where in 2016
Discussion
Snow in Bulgaria isn't looking good at all 15 to 20 degrees and strong winds last few weeks.
Rain washing snow away.
So guessing hard pack ice first thing then mush early pm.
Where is the snow? Last year 190cm snow in a day and loads falling all week now last snow was well over 2 weeks ago! Typical
Oh well up early and into the bars

Next on the list, Kaprun at the end of march...slushy park laps on the glacier is the order of the day.
Austria>France, not hurrying back to the french alps anytime soon.
Is there a particular reason for you to go to Kaprun? Way back when skis were long, we went there once or twice in the very early season, before there was snow anywhere else, but I didn't get the impression it was even a good, small Austrian resort otherwise. Was I wrong?

Primarily- it has 4 parks, and Austrian park shapers know their stuff. Also, Zell is only down the road, so with a hired car you have quite a lot of scope for checking out different areas.
We were meant to be heading to LAAX (usually make a point of heading there once a season), but unfortunately couldn't make the dates work, so Kaprun is the substitute spring park trip.
I don't generally ride french resorts anymore, as the park shaping leaves a lot to be desired (one of many reasons tbh).

Apparently there are a lot of lifts closed at Laax, everyone at work seems to be heading to Flumserberg instead. They had no snow, then too much snow but I'm not sure what's causing the problems now.Welshbeef said:

Where in Bulgaria are you? I'm currently in Borovets and the is a distinct lack of snow! I can't believe it's colder back home than it is here! We have had a few days of reasonable boarding but unless it gets a lot colder and some snow falls I think we might need to find something else to do for the next couple of days.Rain washing snow away.

In the 3 Valleys! (Other snowy resorts may be available )I was there last week and it snowed every single day, at a rough estimate I'd say easily 20-30cm per day. It was immense. I think I mentioned whilst I was there, I was off piste over in Orelle and we stopped to check the depth, my 135cm pole went straight through the powder without hitting anything solid.
And it's only 3 weeks til I'm back there again

First ski trip tomorrow, off to St Gervais with my 2 boys (12 & 8). We have done hours on dry slope and a few snow days up in aviemore but tomorrow it the real deal.
Just back from first day, magic! Lift queues a bit busy and the ski school fast pass doesn't help but I can say we are hookeda311 said:
Most of France and parts of Italy have had periods of heavy snow since Christmas. Been an odd season but trends seem to suggest winter is starting later across Europe.
We had quite a bit of snow in Zermatt last week over a couple of days - maybe 30cm in total. Pistes there and down into Cervinia were in phenomenal condition. Won't be doing Z again though - expensive and found the runs to be a bit disjointed - far too many tracks breaking up the flow.In St Anton at the moment.
The pistes are all in great condition and plenty of fresh powder readily accessible.
Light has been a bit flat until today and once away from main lifts at the bottom there is barely any queuing.
Half term week is never the best, but this has been great so far.

St Anton definitely has an interesting definition of what a blue consists of, that is for sure
Sometimes I think they should get rid of the run definitions as you see people panic when they see a red (and inevitably gather at the top looking down like that's going to help) when it's just a narrow blue for example.Take the sign away and they would get down it no problem.
Have been to St Anton once and don't remember any of the runs being a problem in terms of getting down. It was bitterly cold though and you can see why most lifts have heated bubbles.
Managed not to get the skis stolen after stopping off at the MooserWirt as well although finding them was a challenge...

Ain't that the truth! Take the sign away and they would get down it no problem.
The trouble is, some people like/need/want to plan a route picking out the colours they can cope with; if you took that away you'd end up with people descending the Swiss Wall on their bonce with boring regularity!
