Lots of nice off piste. And some challenging blacks over on the Les arcs side of la Plagne.
Back home now and yes, the Les Arcs side was a bit more of an adventure. Ended up having 3 of the 6 days over that side. Think I would go back to Les Arcs in a couple of years and would recommend La Plagne to and beginner / improving intermediate skier since many of the long cruising red/blues were ideal for practicing.

Planing for Val d'Isere next Feb and then back to Courchevel 1850 next March. Never stayed at Val although skied over from Tignes in the past, and really enjoyed Courchevel last month so will make a return.

300km of skiing in 6 days at SkiWelt. Blue sky and sunshine on all days bar Tuesday when there was fresh snow and cloud.

Pretty slushy below the mid stations in the afternoon and a few lower runs were very brown so with the sunshine forecast for this week I can't see it getting any better.

Very quiet on the runs with no queues for the lifts or in the restaurants. We normally go early Feb when it is much busier so quite a difference when you avoid the European school holidays.

Back from Grand Massiff and would agree with others back now. Beautiful weather for all bar 1 day we were there, no real new snow to speak of, but generally the conditions were good/okay. Off piste was great. 14 degrees when we left the resort and no snow forecast so could be a sharp end to the end of the season.

I quite like Val, although as I get older the nightlife is of less interest to my and ski in/out takes over.

Good point. We are exactly the same. No real interest in nightlife as such (the very thought of a hangover is enough to make me sore these days) although happy enough to go out for a wander in the evening. Our last 4 ski trips have been ski in/out and it has been great so that would be a focus for us as well.

Got back from Meribel on Saturday. Around 1600m it was slushy by the end of the week but higher up it was still good. A tad icy in places but it was good fun.

First trip on the slopes was awesome, despite some badly brusied toes (and one now missing toenail...!)

Sounds like you may need to invest in fitted boots..........worth every penny yes

Glad you had a good time!

Yes, I bought my own boots several years ago after getting fed up of being crippled by rentals - I have wide feet and they dont normally cater for that - and its well worth the money. Makes a huge difference given that you will be wearing them all day.

I also have quite wide feet and I can wear my fitted boots all day, sometimes in excess of 12 hours or more (once we've had our fill of beer!) and my feet are still comfortable with no issues yes

In theory if you haven't done skiing the best thing to do is rent boots to get an idea of what is important for you in skiing, and then buy your own. Often buying straight away means you don't know what is likely to be an issue for your feet. They're basically the most important piece of equipment for making sure you have a good day.

Last size is all important for my fellow widefoots. Couple of seasons ago I researched long and hard and settled on Rossignol Sensor 100s - last 104. Now I never have to unbuckle during a day skiing.

My Dynafit PX-Ones are pretty good for having wide feet too. Sometimes I have issues with the arch on one foot, but it's a bit random - think it's a combination of how I put the liners back in after drying them and what socks I am wearing.

I have the Atomic B-80: http://www.evo.com/outlet/alpine-ski-boots/atomic-...

I have no idea if they are good/bad when it comes to boots as I bought on the fit. They are probably a bit out of date now but have had no problems since I bought them other than they now stink a bit smile

Yeah, these were from rental snowboarding boots. I did go over on toe edge a few times and whack toes quite hard which didn't help (neither did the girl who repeatly stood on them in the bar but I think the beer cushioned that pain!)

My last measurement is 110mm and I have a high-volume foot with high arches, so I've no chance of getting anything to fit off the shelf. My old Tecnicas have really been stretched.
Even normal shoe shopping is a real PITA.

I struggled with my feet this time. My left was perfect but my right was a PITA and was numb for a large part of the day, I had to loosen off on any long lifts just to give it a break...I'm carrying more weight than last trip and I have bit of a dodgy arch, but later this year I am tempted to get my feet properly examined as they are starting to cause more grief as I get older (28 now and done a lot of sport.)

I currently have these atomic hawx 100 from 2013

How tight do you have the buckles. 3 and 4 dont need to be so tight that it causes pain:

I had a shot at skiing (I'm a beginner) Hochzillertal on Saturday. Good lord. My legs hurt so much. Had a shot at a few black runs at the end of the day, elegant it was not.

I had my boots fitted by Edge & Wax just before Christmas. The process took nearly three hours, seem extremely thorough and was free of charge providing I purchased boots from them. I also had custom insoles to suit my arches which really helps me.

I bought Lange SX 120's and they seem to do the job perfectly (I've no idea if they are a good boot or bad boot TBH!)

As I said earlier, it's money very well spent yes
