I'll confess I have boggo Salomon rentals - with the proviso that they're supplied by the same shop each year who have my measurements on file and often bring down virtually unworn boots. They still insist on re-measuring my feet and doing a trial fitting, but I'm fairly confident that what they select will give no problems.

Meanwhile Colorado is cruelly teasing me with reports of 40" of snow over the last few days. When does the 2017 thread open?

How tight do you have the buckles. 3 and 4 dont need to be so tight that it causes pain:

I had my boots fitted by Edge & Wax just before Christmas. The process took nearly three hours, seem extremely thorough and was free of charge providing I purchased boots from them. I also had custom insoles to suit my arches which really helps me.

I bought Lange SX 120's and they seem to do the job perfectly (I've no idea if they are a good boot or bad boot TBH!)

As I said earlier, it's money very well spent yes
The best boot are the ones that fit!

Ive got those (well last seasons anyway), good 'all-round' boot but not a responsive boot on-piste for me though i came from race spec boots where i could control the skis by putting abit of toe pressure on a side and itd respond (or maybe it was a placebo effect doing that).

Im just waiting for people to upload their pics to my dropbox account (been waiting 10 days now and 4/7 have accepted) and ill do a review of Chamonix UCPA

I have just had to turn down a second trip to Tignes in April. I've had 19 days skiing this season, unaccompanied by MrsC, and whilst she's extremely tolerant, I know there is a limit out there somewhere!

Boots & skis back in the loft for me until, hmm, at least Nov.

Hey guys, I'm considering returning to Chamonix for a few days in mid/late April. Anyone got any tips on what kind of conditions there typically are at that time of year?

I'd hold out for a while - there are a few 'autonomous' drones coming out in the next few months, including ones from both DJI and GoPro.

Please don't - no one wants hundreds of those things buzzing around watching punters ski down a red run with horrendous technique.

Looking forward to getting some snow action over the next 5 days. Haven't had much time this season as we've been busy building a cabin. Perfect rather forecast too!

I hadn't considered that. Hundreds of them buzzing about would spoil things. My thought was god off piste stuff, my windsurfing and maybe surfing.

And of course the potential for accidents when one hits another skier.

Anyone remember the roddler who was blinded by a drone some months ago.......only an accident but it happens.

They'll be banned from the pistes faster than I can ski yes

i thought drones had been banned in a majority of European resorts? Over the 2 weeks i had, i only saw one which was being flown by someone in normal clothes at the top of tignes.

It's unbelievable, really need a screw loose to tackle that sort of thing. One wrong move (and even the best do it) and you're done.

The shelf life of these extreme skiers and boarders is pretty short. If you watch a compilation film etc from a few years previous you can almost guarantee the majority will be dead. cry
