Does anyone have any recommendations for Skiing Apps - on Android..?

As much as I like the look of the Oakley Airwave / Recon stuff. I'm not sure my skiing really deserves such an expense!!

I've got Trace Snow - which I think used to be Trailmaps (nope! Alpine Replay)

I'm just looking for one or two Apps which cover the following :

One for speed, distance, etc.. - which I think Trace Snow will do well and keep a history.

and possibly one for Piste Maps,etc...

We're going to France, La Rosiere if it makes any difference on the choice.

Happy for Paid For (if personally recommended) or Free.

ETA : Actually it used to be Alpine Replay...

Fatmap is very good. Not sure if it covers La Ros yet. http://fatmap.com/

If you can live with speed and distance, download Strava and then when you upload your day, you can convert it to ski/snowboard/cross country etc etc.

I only tried mine out for a quick blast last week ... suspect it will eat battery power which I needed for work calls and more importantly some banging tunes.;)

I was actually on a board, not ski's, hence the lowly max speed.clap

I've used Strava, and still upload my stuff to there as I use it for cycling, but if you want an iPhone app Ski Tracks seems to work a lot better. It separates lifts and the bits you're skiing and doesn't seem to eat battery at all as long as the phone is kept warm(ish) and not in an outside pocket.

I used TraceSnow all day and it was fine on battery.

Definitely Ski Tracks, unless you have a need to upload to PC for some reason.

Ski Tracks can send a .gpx by email out of the app so you can then look at it on a PC too.

Endomondo is good for tracking as it doesn't need a data connection to do it. Fatmap needs a data connection

I used the .gpx file to transfer my history between mobiles. What PC software can read it?

Garmin Connect can read it, I just flip the file over to Strava and use that though.

This is my fastest speed, but as it's from the phone GPS I don't actually trust/believe it as a single point measurement. The gradient stats seem to be very hit and miss, my highest is 35 degrees but there's no really accurate way of measuring that with the limited sensors in an iPhone.

id take speed and gradient with a pinch of salt to be honest as ive skied with people where all of us had the app running. Long story short, same run @ same time 3 abreast, nobody pulling ahead etc yet one person managed 5-10mph more than us.

Gradient wise ive seen 65(?) in a chute in Val D but later on people thought it was more like 45.

Its good for clocking up mileage and where youve been etc

and maybe pub bragging rights

Agreed, it's the same when you see cyclists recording data on their phones and uploading to Strava, it's simply not accurate and can provide wildly different data when run alongside something like a Garmin Edge 500.

Good idea!

I'm sticking with the App I've already got - Trace Snow, as it stores a history as well... Although I have to remember to start logging, which I think I kept on forgetting last time we went.

A friend of mine hit something like 26MPH on one of these tracking apps once...while running a marathon.

Nuff said.

Pah......on rental skis I managed this biggrin (and on a 23 degree slope apparently!)

I've not had chance to use the app in anger with my new Black Crows but will do this coming week wink

True I couldn't care less, but a mate is a bit of a willy waver about how he could ski at 50 mph and so on so did a reccy on a slope on the chair and seen it was clear. Managed to see 65 mph! That's how I know they're bullst.
