Las Vegas Recommendations?

Sorry for the threadjack!
Last time I went to vegas I rented a Challenger through Hertz, Unfortunately this time they are all sold out of anything interesting for the dates I want (18th-20th of November)
Before I start googling for other car rental places, does anyone have any experience with any other interesting car rental companies over there?

not really a surprise for a city thats main focus is gambling, drinking, partying........Don't take kids....
all jokes aside, how rubbish was it with kids??
Its just I keep seeing people asking about it, I have been 4 times now and couldnt think of anything worse than taking kids there. I know it is a huge city, with millions of people living and working there, so has all the normal city stuff and has to have the amenities for normal family life etc....., but for tourists it really only caters for adults!!!

Our focus was getting married. Not getting into any bars even for a beer was a little sad especially one or two that I really wanted to visit but daughter struggled with time zone difference so dropped early. Our hotel choice was our saving. Great beach and pool area and beers possible.all jokes aside, how rubbish was it with kids??

It was also memorial weekend so very busy. In a way I'm glad to escape to Florida. Vegas is very obvious about it's desire to mug you.

Done Vegas a few times for work. Don't think that just because you can see a hotel, its a short walk! The size of the hotels is quite deceptive from a distance.
Because I've only ever been to Vegas for work, I've never done that many tourist things there. Hoping to go back next year with Mrs Bakerstreet and do Grand Canyon, Lake Mead etc etc.

I'm off to Vegas again in a few months with my farther and inquired with Serenity as the last time he went with Maverick (he wasnt happy with the trip) and they still have a booking kiosk between the Mandalay bay and the Luxor if you want to choose when you arrive http://www.serenityhelicopters.com/
I'm now back from Vegas, so here's my thoughts...
The group that I was with had booked Battlefield Vegas, so I did the Black Ops Gamer Experience, with a Glock as an extra. Very good fun, professionally run. I was surprised by how much you feel some guns through the floor when they are fired next to you. But that didn't stop someone in the next lane taking his ear defenders off! A few shells from an automatic shotgun about eight feet from him meant he put them back on very quickly!
I went with Maverick's Dream Catcher Sunset Tour as it covered almost everything I wanted to see - Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Landing in the Grand Canyon and flying over the Strip. The Valley of Fire is incredible, as it the Canyon itself. The Hoover Dam was not as impressive as I expected from the sky and the landing was excessive... We had nearly an hour in the canyon. After 10 minutes, you've had a good look around, so you have some champagne and a 'light snack' (some celery, carrots, a cracker and a few grapes...), then sit there for half an hour! If I was going again, I'd go for a quick flight in and out of the canyon, then fly over the strip.
I would recommend going on the rides on the top of the Stratosphere... but only if you normally wake up thinking you are an onion

Also, if you go to Battlefield Vegas, note that Count's Kustoms (and the free tour) is just over the railway lines behind it. You don't want to get back to the UK and find you missed it

I'm off to Las Vegas on Wednesday, with wife and children. This is the first 'stop' (only place I could fly to with BA points). We have a hire car, but I'm undecided how long to stay. We will eventually end up in San Francisco (for me to work for a few days) and LA.
Most of the suggestions above are adult oriented, so with a hire car any suggestions with children (12 and 15)? Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon?
