Spent the past three Christmas holidays at Moon Palace (Grand & Nizuc) with the family. We get away regularly but have never returned to a hotel more than twice before we came across this place. We have already booked to return for a forth time Christmas New year 2015/2016 which sums up our thoughts. Some people are not happy with the size of the hotel (2500 rooms, it's huge) but with three distinct hotels within the 42 square mile site and almost 20 restaurants to choose from its similar to having three villages to choose from. Sunrise section:- party time, Nizuc section:- Middle of the road and great with kids, Grand:- Quiet and chilled (my choice every time) Irrespective what hotel you are staying at all amenities can be used by every guest. If any of your group enjoy golf the 27 hole golf course is a massive plus for me. The beach suffers from seaweed on the tide line so it is not the greatest sea for swimming but the beach itself is fine. There are around a dozen pools to choose from and all drinks are premium brand such as Grey Goose vodka, Bacardi rum & Bombay Blue Sapphire gin. As I mentioned at the begining we have always stayed here in December and January when the climate is around 25-28C with little humidity, if you choose to go in July you will be getting close to hurricane season and the humidity may be rather unpleasant. My family and I really do like this place, we can't fault the food, cleanliness, comfort and service but if you do go DO NOT GO ON ONE OF THEIR TIME-SHARE PRESENTATIONS.

The seaweed on the tide line all along the caribbean coast of Mexico seems particularly severe this year. It's actually Sargassaum and this link explains a bit about whats happening. http://mission-blue.org/2014/10/sargassum-inundate...

If you are a beach lover and planning on going to that part of the world this year you may want to postpone your visit if at all possible.
