Iceland in a camping van

Am taking the wife and kids to Iceland for a week May/June, our first camping van holiday. I've already searched the forum and read through the Iceland threads, learning loads as I went, but you mostly seem to have done the hire car 4x4 and guesthouse/hotel approach.

It's clear that the rental 6 berth turbodiesel camper van is not going to get us into the wilds or ford rivers, so will be mostly sticking to the tarmac or the tamer gravel roads.

Has anyone else on PH done Iceland in a camper van and if so do you have any advice on good places to park up, particular camp sites that you enjoyed? Any feedback much appreciated.
