Currently sat on the runway at stansted (O'Leary's lot) an hour after we were due to take off...

We previously had over 2.5 hours to make the connection (seperate bookings), now looking like it'll be about an hour or so's gap to get bags and re-checkin in Athens....including luggage...although next flight is internal

Is this possible?

If not what recompense am I able to seek against the airline whom I'm currently sitting on to get new flights should we not make it?

Those aren't connecting flights, they're with 2 different airlines.

If you miss the second flight unfortunately, it's just the same as someone who turns up at Athens airport on a bus or train or by car without having enough time before their flight.

It all depends on what time your check in closes for the next flight. I would say that an hour is possibly still enough time though.

You can always get EU compensation if your Ryanair flight was delayed but I doubt you'll get anything after an hour.

We've had two different carriers before and a delay meant we missed the connecting flight.

Instead had to fly via two other airports to get there the same day - wasn't fun at all. We didn't manage to get any £ back either

That's what I was scared of hearing....thankfully we arrived with an hour until the next flight left, somehow managed to collect bags and then re-checkin with 10 mins to spare...

Now chilling with a beer by the pool...glad it never came to missing it!

That was a close escape - I didn't want to say it before but we would never do connecting flights with different carriers again lesson learned the hard way.

Actually we have not done one since and always go direct over possibly saving some £.

I've learned the hard way. Always book the flights on the same ticket, same carrier, then you have some protection.

We missed our flight to Dubai, had to stay overnight in Heathrow and buy another one-way ticket for in the morning. Got there about 10hrs late but still enjoyed our holiday.

On our return, found our return flight was automatically cancelled due to us missing the outgoing flight. Had to pay again to re-book our original seats.

Fcensoredking expensive holiday that was!
