Chaps.

I'm taking the Mrs to London for a night away, is Excel/Cannery Wharf too far out of town to book a hotel? If so what is the furthest place I should be looking, I don't fancy travelling to far after a meal in a restaurant and a few drinks in a bar.

Many thanks.

It's not too far really, but you'll have to travel for anything. Canary Wharf at the weekend is a ghost town. Unnervingly so.. reminded me of 28 days later.

What are you hoping to see and do?

Excel is totally dead if there isn't an exhibition on, if you're seeing a cheap deal there - well there's a reason why it's cheap. It would be a false economy.
If you're only in London for a short stay then you need to stay in the centre (anything inside the circle line) to be able to enjoy it.

If you are going to London for a weekend away, Exel and Canary Wharf is the last place I would want to stay.

As others have said, Canary Wharf is dead during the weekends. The only people usually there are tourists and even they look a bit confused by how quiet it is.

If it's the Britannia in Canary Wharf then I would struggle to recommend it. I know they do cheap deals at weekends.

If you want decent, cheap, and central, have a look at the Travelodge in Drury Lane. smile

if you try and book a budget hotel such as travelodge, you're a mug. lastminute.com un-named 5* will be about £100 a night. Travelodge will be £120-130.

When you refer to un-named 5 stars what do you mean? I'm looking at London options also and there are no 5 star hotels at the price above on lastminute unfortunately.

Their "secret hotel" deals - they give you a vague description but you don't know what you're getting. Sometimes you may be able to google the description to reveal the hotel.

I did it once and got Hilton Islington for less than £100 per night

You can usually find out where they are though if you Google the hotel description
