DFDS are over double the price of P&O ferries.
They weren't when I booked! DFDS, car with caravan end of July to Middle of August. Calais to Dover return for £148. P&O were over £200.
I'd rather turn my car into a Top Gear style car-boat thing and cross the Channel myself than ever have anything to do with DFDS again.

Booked last year with DFDS going Portsmouth - Le Havre. I'm not good on boats & we've got a 7-year old so we booked a room. 4 weeks before we go, they tell us we can't have the room. We eventually sort something out (after emailing the MD) so I cross outbound with Brittany Ferries the day before & they pay for a hotel in France for a nights stay.

Stupidly, I book again with them this year & again they've told me I can't have a room for the return leg of the journey and the outbound journey I'll have to go the day after as they've cancelled the crossing I've booked completely.

So, money back (over £400) and booked with P&O from Dover for £110 return. Slightly longer drive, but we're stopping overnight in France anyway & I'd rather be driving than floating so win-win.

Never travelled with dfds or my ferry link as I only go on day trips and they are more than p&o. I don't think I'm missing out though, I'm assuming my ferry link are/where rehashed Seafrance...

Yep, with all the same French crew. Now being sold by Eurotunnel to DFDS, hence the strike.

I always prefer DFDS or myferrylink; because they don't take foot passengers or coach parties, they're substantially less overcrowded. p&o's ferries can resemble a rush hour commuter train at times. I'm in two minds about Dunkirk over Calais, the crossing is longer, but the UK passport control (in Dunkirk) is behind the check-in desk and not in front of it, so you don't miss your ferry if the UKBA numpties are have a slow day. It's also adequately staffed, so you sometimes recover your half hour not sitting in a queue.

Small point but.........it's a cabin, not a room.
