I'm taking a business class flight with Emirates at the weekend to Dubai and then onto Hong Kong, having never flown better than premium with the major holiday airlines is there an expected smart/formal dress code in Business class?

The internet would suggest not and that "you've paid for your seat so wear what you like" scenario. However, I would welcome the opinion of those who are frequent flyers. I don't want to be pretentious but I also don't want to stick out like a sort thumb.

I was thinking smart jeans and a casual collared shirt would suffice? Or is that even too "smart"?

For long haul, I would probably go dressed in jeans and a t-shirt.

Mid way through the flight I change into something more comfy - such as tracky bottoms.

Enjoy the flight :-)

No dress code at all!!!

You can turn up in old shorts and T shirt ....

Some will be smartly dressed - some will be dressed like hobo's.

Once you are in your seat wont make any difference what so ever.

My advice - dress up in what you are comfortable in - at the end of the day you are still in a steel tube and unless you are going straight from your flight to a meeting no need for any suit..

The only exception to this is if you want to chat up some of the fellow passengers at the bar then making a tiny effort may be be worth it;)


I normally dress in the most comfortable items i have - Most CC know well enough that it doesnt matter what you wear.

Only on the odd occasion has cabin crew thought i should be turning right instead of left based on me dressed as a hobo and looking young. However once in my seat the service is exceptional ( British Airways excluded)


Just dont be smelly!!!

Then when you're in your seat they will come round with a "sleep suit" which you can change into

Baggy jogging trousers with the pockets cut out.
Plus a smart shirt, obviously.

If you've ever seen some of the people leaving business class, and the utter mess they leave behind, dress as a hobo and you'll fit in fine.

I dress like a homeless person in full tracksuit for whatever flight front middle or back.

Team it with a 20k watch to complete the look.

For a daytime flight, a morning coat. For an evening flight, white tie. If flying somewhere as far as Australia, you will need both.

Dress for comfort. the whole point of flying in Business class is that you have enough space to lie down, and therefore you might actually be able to sleep. The more comfortable your clothing and footwear, the more likely that is.

By all means dress in t shirt and jeans for the flight but pack a dinner jacket and tie in your hand luggage for meal times.

If you are that worried take a look at the shapeless pyjamas BA give out in 1st that a fair number of people wear for the whole flight. It's about comfort not style.

I've flown business in shorts, flops and a t-shirt. It's only you that's worried!
