Could be worse.....several times I've had the joy of flying to the Falklands with Grey Fin Airlines.
No inflight ents, no bar, cattle class only over two legs of 8.5 hours each.
The holding lounge at Ascension consisted of a fenced-in patio with a few picnic tables, a drinks vending machine and toilets.
It's all change now, certainly when I was there 2/3 years ago the contracted aircraft came with iPads and battery packs for everyone. You handed in your boarding card in exchange for the iPad then when you leave you get your boarding card back. Fully loaded with films and music. Brilliant.

For some reason booze gives me sore head on a long haul although I'm usually in eco class.
Weird I know but one thing I am worried about it to take a poop while in the air.

Upgrade. Simple as that.
Whenever we've done the western USA we've gone Virgin Premium Economy.
There are entire threads about which airline has the best options, but the extra cost (which isn't actually that much when you consider the overall cost of a holiday and how easily it can be ruined by a crap flight) it was well worth it, as much for the pre-flight perks as for the:
Bigger seat (I'm 6'2 and had loads of room in all directions)
Additional baggage allowance.
Better food with real cutlery on china plates.
Lack of screaming kids (as they all tend to get shovelled in to cattle class)
(Plus you'll have in-seat power for devices)

Sedona's lovely by the way. First night stop on our big Harley tour last summer. Does go a bit quiet after 9pm though.
The food in PE virgin is equally as bad as economy.
As soon as the person infront fully reclaimed their seat you still have no room. (I'm 6'5")
I stopped paying for it and paid for exit seats, take my own food and have noise canceling headphones.
They obviously just didn't like you.
Food was fine, granted not Michelin star fine but adequate, bearing in mind you're in an aluminium tube travelling at 600mph, 36000feet in the air.
Ditto the seating. Loads of room. Dunno what you're whinging about. Yeah ok, if the seat in front gets reclined it'll encroach a little, but the all important legroom is unaffected.

After posting advice on this thread.. I now find myself booking a flight fro Raleigh, North Carolina to Hong Kong next week.. 16 hours... In the cheap seats too, as my business travel is limited and there are no seats available in extra legroom section.

I always knew being 5'8" would come in handy...

Worse than that though... I am going to leave my new 2015 Mustang GT at home, with the missus able to take it out.

Just done a 10 hour flight with Baby Petrus - if at all you can get the bulkhead it makes all the difference -

We also put Calpol in his milk when he went to sleep - all in all a good flight (but did seem very long).

You must have very low standards, the food on virgin is genuinely awful, breakfast is enough to make you want to gip
As to reclining, you're talking crap. One guy on a flight back from Joberg fully reclined his seat (as his is right ) and was squashing my legs.
I did long haul at least once a month last year and wouldn't waste the money on virgin PE
How does reclining a seat back reduce the seat pitch? Or are you some kind of freak with knees round their ears?
Still, you're right.....it's so very un-PH to admit to actually tolerating let alone enjoying flying in anything other than a gold plated private Learjet crewed entirely by Playboy bunnies.

I can't sleep on flights either. Even when tired. Being tall, econ seats are just not in anyway comfortable. Normally makes me feel well ratty and severe itchy eyes like you haven't been allowed to blink for 12 hrs.

I did, however, find a solution to not being able to sleep on an economy flight once;

extreme tiredness

I'd flow Birmingham to Zurich, then straight on to Baden by train. Went to a factory in Birr, then stayed over night then went Zurich -> Dubai -> Melbourne -> 24 hours -> Melbourne -> Dubai -> Zurich -> Birmingham.

I was so flogged on the Melbourne to Dubai flight I slept pretty much the whole way like I'd just died in my seat.

Edited that for you.

However, I once woke up at home in bed having absolutely no idea how I got off of the plane, drove home(!!), and ended up in my bed. So at the very least, take a taxi as I do now.

its really not that bad - I used to dread the though of flying to aus from teh uk - but now I do a stop over at changi its relatively civil. Once aboard, get comfy, resign yourself to being on board for the duration and commence playing with the entertainment system and ordering up food and booze !!

13 hours uk to changi btw.

I try to sleep at least 3 or 4 but I never manage more than 2.

They regularly come around with food and booze and you can get up and roam about, the movies and music on planes now is great too.

I have used Nytol a few times - with red wine, that does the trick but left me a bit groggy and feeling like I needed to "wash" the lethargy off.

11 hours and getting to your destination is far better than 13 hours , then walking the length of an airport and getting back on a plane for another 10.5 hours!!!!!!!

Are you deliberately being a tt?
Person reclines their seat it reduces your leg space, I know that appears to be hard concept for you to understand.
As stated earlier I'd much rather be in cattle and get an exit seat, so your lear jet comment is completely irrelevant.
What the fk has being "PH" got to do with anything other than you being an arse.
for the last few years I've flown most weeks, it's nothing something I do for enjoyment, it's something I do out of necessity.

But you feel free to carry on with your delusional ramblings
rolleyes
Are you sure flying in economy hasn't got to you?
You sound very angry.
For what it's worth, I don't have low standards. I'm just able to a) keep things in perspective and context and b) not be reduced to "gipping" by an airline breakfast.
Perhaps I'm just not that delicate.
