Needing some advice from those who can offer the experience.

It is many years since I went for my one and only trip to France, Normandy in about 1994. At the time I was 12. We have a window of opportunity to explore some of the country again from 6-15 July. I've got to factor in a day to get to Calais and a day from Calais due to being in the frozen wastelands, but I'd like to go to the Ardennes and explore some of the area around there. Missus has looked at the map and picked out Amiens, Arras and Dunkirk, which aren't in the Ardennes at all! She would like to visit them for the significance during both WWs. Whilst I too would like it, I would also still like to visit Ardennes!

Could anyone offer advice on areas to stay from Calais through those areas towards Ardennes? Am I pushing it with about a weeks worth of visit time or could it be fairly leisurely? It'll be the first time I've taken the camper overseas, we did 12 days in Cornwall and Devon last year, and we were planning to do the west coast of Scotland in this time period but the weather forecast at the moment looks poor. A heatwave extends to the English/Scottish border only!

All advice gratefully appreciated.

If your planning on seeing Dunkirk etc why not get the ferry to there instead of Calais? We went over last year in our converted Luton and it was considerably cheaper.

You will have plenty of time to visit the French and Belge Ardennes. A very nice region with plenty of campsites to enjoy. Don't be shy and get stuck in.
