We went there with Headwater about six years ago - a walking holiday visiting 5 or 6 of the main islands. They are all quite different. Some are very lush with huge patches of wild tiger lilies (the scent is almost overwhelming) and hydrangea growing everywhere. Other islands are clearly volcanic with recent bare lava, hot pools and thermal vents.
It's also a great place for whale-watching if that appeals.
Ferries and flights between the islands are (or at least were) quite cheap due to subsidies.
The food was excellent and ISTR it's the only place in Europe that has a tea plantation.
