Stayed in the Staybridge Suites just off Time Squares in Feb. Fantastic stay.

They have a little kitchenette which is extremely handy, and they also put on beer and pizza happy hours during the week, free of charge.

Would stay there again.

Big fan of the Ace on the corner of 29th/Broadway - pretty reasonable too. Most AirBnB's I checked out seemed pricey for what they were

That looks interesting, thanks! (Cheap(er) too!)
No worries!
It's weirdly cheap for what and where it is.

It's a 30 second walk to the subway, 1 min to the bus station and 5mins to Times Square.

Also forgot to mention the really good free breakfast buffet, we ate there 3/5 mornings we stayed.
Features cereals, some cooked bits, breads, pancakes/waffles etc etc.

Not on the prettiest on streets but it's NYC wink

And in addition, the bed's the comfiest i've slept on. Even better than the MGM Grand!

Been three time in four years and stayed at Hotel Chandler, Marriott Marquiss and Park Central. All had their merits but Chandler was probably the best for service and luxury.
When we go again we have both said we would stay somewhere different- Meatpacking Dist, Soho, TriBeCa etc. I would avoid Times Square as just too busy.

We stayed in the Affinia Manhatten, 7th Ave directly opposite Madison Square Gardens. Nice hotel rooms are ok, afterall it is only somwhere to sleep. You get alot of noise from the local fire station but IMO adds to the experiance of NYC.

I stayed at the Library Hotel a few years back and would reccomend it. It is 5 minutes walk to Times Square or the Empire State Building and less to Grand Central station (which is worth a visit), but far enough out to be quieter.

I stayed in the Gotham hotel on East 46th Street and it was very nice. It's very close to all the main attractions but out the way enough not to be too noisy at night.

It was very clean and modern with friendly staff and overall it wasn't that expensive.

YMCA Vanderbilt. 1 prison cell sized room with a double bunk and plastic mattresses. Nice shower though, with large sash windows so you can have a good view out while showering ( you have to open the window to see out mind, people across the street, higher up may see your wang).

Having said that though I have actually though that staying in (whisper it) Hoboken or somehwere on the NJ side is much better. We stayed in a Double Tree somewhere not too far from the PATH station. PATH train is like 2 bucks to WTC and then you're off! We had a great view of Manhattan from the room which is something you will miss if you are inside it.

We've also stayed at Double Tree on (I think) 6th and Lexington, a Sheraton somewhere and Hilton pretty much on Times Square. The latter was the nicest of course, but the others were perfectly good I thought. Double Tree room was a bit duff since it looked out over the inner of the building, over a courtyard of AC units! But comfortable room and beds with a great shower. What more could you need.

We went just before Xmas and stayed at Le Parker Meridien in Midtown West. I think we got a good deal relative to NYC prices and I loved the location. There were a couple of good Delis close by which were good for breakfast; the hotel itself had a nice breakfast place (highly rated on Trip Advisor), but it was quite expensive (~$90 for 2 IIRC). It also had a quirky little burger place just inside the lobby which is very popular ($35 for 2). We tried both once and enjoyed them.

The hotel itself is a couple of blocks from Central Park, a few blocks from 5th Avenue and it's right next to the 7th Avenue Express subway line which connects into Times Square and from there you can get to most places. From the hotel we walked to Central Park, 5th Avenue, Times Square and we walked back from the Rockerfeller Center late one night. The room was also a decent size which was a plus for NY as well, but the view consisted of someone's office windows about 30ft away.

I don't usually have strong opinions on hotels; as long at they're clean and there's a shower then I'm happy, but the next time I go back to NY I'll try and stay there again.
I've stayed at Le Parker Meridien a few times. If you subscribe to their offers list they often do 50% off deals for upfront payment of stays.
Rooms are not huge but are well equipped and some have fantastic views of central park if you so desire.
Has the benefit of Norma's for breakfast, and Burger! joint inside is superb.

As above it's a great location for walking or getting the metro. 5-10 minutes walk from 2 different lines.
Recommended.

It may stretch your budget a little, but the Andaz Manhattan 5th Avenue Is a great hotel. I normally stay when I'm in Manhattan, which is monthly, and it's always been flawless. Great location, definitely ticks the luxury box also.

We did the obvious (against the Trip Advisor reviews) and stayed at the Waldorf Astoria last August.

We stayed for 6 nights RO, for £1250 for two adults and two children.

The hotel was great, clean and our spacious room was over looking Lexington Ave on the 38th floor.

We used to breakfast from the fruit seller / pastry cart on the corner, with coffee from Starbucks!

Hi

I posted this on a thread in the past when someone asked for somthing similar

Am off to NYC on Thurs for a 4 day trip...

This is the thrid time am going and I would agree that you will only spend a limited time in the hotel however location for me plays a big part...coming back to a central hotel makes it very convieinient to freshen up before you head out for dinner in the evening again.

I found the Westin near Grand Central is good location and reasonably priced for manhattan -

Though I would say unless you are willing to pay through the nose the hotels are not that great in relation to what you pay.

A tip - Try and book a hotel part of the Hyatt group ( they have some excellent locations in Manhattan. They do a price promise where they will match the price of a hotel room PLUS and extra 20% of the lower price. In NYC I easily found a few websites that beat the Hyatt price- I got them to price match and on this trip am staying at the Andaz 5th Avenue for a really good price.

As others have echoed I would personally stay away from Times Square - You have to visit but wouldnt want to stay in that area...

Intercontinental Barclay is a great location but was very disappointed with the hotel...

Kitano - A japanese owned hotel - good location great views of empire state building but expensive.

Having stayed at the Andaz I would say it was an amazing hotel for Manhattan- huge rooms with an empire state building view - In future this will always be my go to hotel...

Get them to do a price match and you can pick up a bargain hopefully....

I stayed here (it was called something different back then) when I first went over for new year in '95/96. Great central location. I remember it being noisy too, but I think that it NYC generally. However, on New Year's Day morning it was eeirly quiet, it was like the deserted streets in I Am Legend.

I found the Library expensive for what it was and where it was.... the room I had was barely wide enough for me to open the door into my room, and then I had nowhere to put my suitcase. It's funky but definitely overpriced.

I always seem to struggle to find a decent hotel in NY that (a) suits corporate T&E budget, or (b) is anywhere near where I need to be. My last 2 visits I stayed in the Novotel on Times Sq. (tourist hell!) then the Roosevelt (desperately in need of a revamp!).
I think for my next trip 19-23 October I may just stay in "Joisey City" and use the Path train.
