10 days in Zürich - what to do?
Discussion
Just a few suggestions but Lake Zurich is pretty amazing and really quite big! If you head down the right hand side of the Lake (if you're looking at it from the City) check out Chur. Oldest town in Switzerland and really chocolate box cover. Head up to Laax which is a Snowboard resort in winter but in summer you can go mountain biking there (rentals available) and theres an amazing cable car ride to the top of the mountain where you will get breathtaking views and your higher than any point in the UK!
By the way if you're looking for places to eat I can recommend the Ban Song Thai restaurant.

Munich is great, well worth a visit. The Deuttsches Museum is very good too.
I would guess Stuttgart is a similar distance, the Mercedes Musuem there is very good.
A bit nearer is Lake Constance. Zurich to the pleasant City of Konstanz is an hour on the train, from there you can get boats on the lake, to nearby places such as Meersburg, a lovely town, the botanical garden island of Lindau, or a bit further away, Friedrischafen, for the Zeppelin and Dornier museums.
Schaffausen, for the Rhine Falls, is worth a look, you can get a boat right into the centre of the falls. Or get a boat up the Rhine, the town of Stein am Rhine Is worth stopping off at, with lovely painted buildings.
I don't know much about Zurich itself though, have only been to the airport!

A pub crawl in the old town is a must!
The bars are open until about 3/4am, or until the last person leaves. People are really friendly and will happily chat to you.
There is also a place called Langstrasse (Long Street), which is full of bars/clubs/cabaret etc.
Oh strip joints are not quite like what they are over here, they are essentially knocking shops.
To which both a work colleague and I had learnt.
Otherwise, there are the mountains (as mentioned above), Bahnhofstrasse (the main road that leads up to ZurichHB) for shopping.
Depending on which hotel you stay at, you will also be a guide in your room, which highlights place to go.

Don't know that one.
Ex pat hub is Paddy O'Reillys...for ALL the ex-pats in Zurich. Mr Pickwicks is the other main place. Check out the traditional Zurich bierhalles...Wolf and the one over the road, just up from Central.
A walk along the Zurichsee, the prom basically, on a Sunday morning is a superb place for a wander and to read, eat your bretzel and coffee.
If anything is on, maybe worth going to the Opera...it is very very very good and quite a lot of people I know who have done the various Operas around Europe rate it better than La Scala!
The zoo is great, esp the restaurant...its only an open ditch away from the monkeys watching you and farting at you :P
Take the trains out to Schaff...do a tour of the IWG factory. Konstanz is dull I find but some may like it. Take the train to Bern for half a day to look round (thats all you will need). Munich is great to visit and you aren't too many hours away by train from Milan or Turin.

Bob down to Luzern as well, or on the weekend take the cog train to the to of Rigi
Rigi is a mountain, just near Zurich and was a MUST do for Gentleman Victorians on the Grand Tour. On a clear day the view of the Swiss alps is simply STUNNING, on a cloudy day however, it is well a bit cloudy.

Take the train from Zurich to Chur to Tirano (Italy) total cost chf45 one way on a half fare card. The part to Chur is not interesting and takes just over an hour; the journey from Chur to Tirano is via St Moritz and the Bernina Express and takes 4 hours. It has fabulous scenery. Stay in the Centrale Hotel and eat in the Foglia d'Oro whilst at Tirano (the two are close by). It's possible the route is still a good experience if the visibility is poor but the views to Pontresina etc are what makes this route and they might be obscured.
Just my opinion, but, by the time you've put up with the rather Germanic Swiss in Zurich, the Italians at Tirano can be a refreshing change.
