Just to add, if you're NT members then Llanhydrock near Bodmin is very interesting, big gaff and nice enough tearoom etc etc, and Glendurgan the far side of Falmouth a great place to while away a few hours wandering down to the beach area (lovely gardens planted down the valley all the way to shoreline).
Trip Advisor was very good for finding decent eateries. The Falmouth Bay Seafood Cafe (Truro) served up one of our most memorable meals (linguine with lobster) but they've moved to a bigger place since.

SNAP!
We did St Michael's Mount, The Minack theatre and Lands end yesterday.
What a dump Lands End is.
Full of Burger bars, shops selling tat, like a mini Alton Towers....I remember going forty years ago, there was absolutely nothing there ........as it should be.
Today:- Restormel Castle and Bodmin Jail.
On Monday we went to St Mawes castle, ad then via the King Harry Ferry...Pendennis Castle...both recommended.
I had the dogs with me for lands end, so managed to bypass all the tat. Nice walk along the coast and stunning views though. We did St Michael's Mount, The Minack theatre and Lands end yesterday.

You are right, it should've been a house, maybe a pub and a signpost. The back roads towards Penzance were nice though and some great photo ops at St. Michael's.
Having a quiet day today i think.
Possibly pop into lanhydrock house being as the courage We're in is on the grounds!

Llanhydrock was one of the places we absolutely loved on our visit last year. Fantastic place, wish we had more time there. Wish I could figure out how to post pics here now, all my old pics have vanished from PH Trip Advisor was very good for finding decent eateries. I'm sat here on the edge of Bodmin Moor near St Breward reading through this thinking about what a wonderful place Cornwall is. Been here since Saturday and been to Trebarwith Strand, Daymer, (saw Gordon Ramsay in his AC Cobra!), Fowey, Looe, Lappa Valley and Rock (utter disaster - car parks rammed so we sat in a traffic jam for ages!).
Been here many times before but this is the first time with the toddler and I really seem to be enjoying it more this time.

Lappa Valley is a fun little attraction, isn't it
Kid nirvana; he went on the play train at reception, the real train, the golf, the castle, the little train... He was like Augustus Gloop when he discovered everything was chocolate - each way he looked there was something new to play on!The queue of suspiciously large "three next month" kids at the way in was quite entertaining!!
Kind of on my own based on the thread so far, but after coming back from Devon (Salcombe) last week we've booked for next year already but after Salcome 3 out of the last 7 years we've decided to go to Cornwall for the first time.
Will be 2 adults and a 12 year old so opted for Padstow, house 5 mins walk to the harbour with decent sea views.
Really looking forward to it already.

From my small experience of "modern" Cornwall, together with an even smaller experience of Devon, I would be inclined to save on fuel, and continue visiting Devon. Will be 2 adults and a 12 year old so opted for Padstow, house 5 mins walk to the harbour with decent sea views.

After spending some fabulous holidays during the seventies in St Ives, Newquay, el al, I took a friend down there about five years ago, and I found all the places I had fond memories of, just full of obnoxious people, with obnoxious kids, nowhere to park unless you took out a second mortgage, £5 to see Lands End, ..... horrendous by comparison to my fond memories!!!
We spent three days there, which quite frankly was more than enough, and left early on our last day, deciding to look at part of the Devon coastline. What a contrast!! We spent the afternoon in Ilfracombe, parking was free, the place was spotlessly clean, it was very busy with nice people, with nice families, eating in nice cafes, and restaurants, nothing like the embarrassing beings that had filled Cornwall!!!
So, to this day, I never understand why anyone would waste fuel and valuable holiday hours driving past somewhere as nice as the Devon coast, to face what I experienced in Cornwall!!

We spent many sunny days on that beach when I was a kid. My Grandparents lived just a few miles from it and it was our go to place when the sun was out. Unfortunately they are no longer with us but I've promised myself I will return and spend more time in Cornwall.
We're currently spending a few days in Polruan, an unspoilt, beautiful & quiet little place - heaven!
Took the ferry over to Fowey today, kids have kayaked there a few times but we've never visited it, I'm sure it's lovely out of season but we are very glad to be back in Polruan again.

As an old Cornish resident of twenty odd years, you need to get yourselves south of Helston toward The Lizard. IMO the best part of Cornwall and by far the most unspoilt, even when the weather is not too special.
And as a secret, try The Ship Inn in Mawgan-In-Meneage for a top class evening meal. You will probably need to book though.
