I always thought that CDW was the equivalent of third party and LDW was an upgrade to fully comp.
LDW & CDW are technically slightly different - L = Loss and C = Collision - but usually the coverage is the same.

For Hertz, 3rd party cover is called LIS (Liability Insurance Supplement).

If you book an all-inclusive rate through a UK website, or the UK Hertz site, then all necessary insurance are included. Often you'll be "offered" personal accident and personal effects insurance, and enhanced roadside assistance coverage, at the rental counter.

If you book through a US site then there may be no insurance at all, as US drivers are usually covered by their own car insurance.

Where / how did you book the car?
Direct on Hertz USA website. Note that when booking direct you must always check on the "offers" tab for applicable discount codes, unless you have too much cash and want to pay more. They will also offer uninsured driver cover at additional cost, but IMHO this is not necessary if everyone who will travel in the car has travel insurance.

If you are in Florida, check what is happening at the Kennedy Space Center / Cape Canaveral and maybe you can see something like this:

Agreed - use them wherever I can now in the US.

As they're relatively new to the US market they have some great rates and some car classes where you get one of 3/4 decent cars and not some random rubbish....

I just booked with Holiday Autos, going through quidco got 10% the price plus £12 cashback.

2 weeks for a Ford Focus with Dollar was £184 after the above discounts were taken off.
