Guessing you are at Cotton Bay if in the north.
Atlantic side of most of the Islands is not the place to be in general, unless you like roughish water and constant breeze. However they normally are cheaper becuase of that.
The Islands recover very quickly, lived out there for many years running boats up and down the Island based in lucia and BVI and seen lots of problems and been in hurricanes, they bounce back and changes are quick so I would not worry to much. Back in Lucia soon myself, not sure how well you know it but all the best places are out of the way and can easly be missed. If you want some info let me know. Very close friends have the main beach bar in Rodney Bay.. Spinnakers...total petrolhead and races in HSCC in the U.k summer months.
If you want to see all the best bits get yourself some wheel from http://www.drivestlucia.com and go and explore..only company to use. Taxis are not cheap and there is aa said lots and lots of stunning things to see.
This is the finest view in the Carib full stop...you can have lunch there http://www.ladera.com , then go for a snorkel at Sugar Beach or Anse Chastnet, remeber all hotels must give public access to the beach so even if you meet the entrance check point if you ask politely they will let you in to some stunning places.

Ah right next to the Airport...was the old club med years ago. Basically its place very much on its own, which is fine if you are the type that really wants to just stay at the hotel and be fed and watered. Most of the good stuff is all west coast. Most activity is in Rodney bay and stunning by the Pitons.
To be totally blunt if you want to go out at night and do other stuff rather than being stuck at the hotel..if there is a option to cancel then do so and go North west coast or somewhere on the West...Rodney Bay, Marigot, Soufriere area. Tropical traveller on line will give you a good idea. http://tropicaltraveller.com/content/
There is a little beach bar called Reef not far from Coconut which has kite surf..that is good spot..but the Atlantic side rough in general and the next good beach none Atlantic coast is probably Laborie which is some distance away.

laborie is where the hotel have currently set up their own "back up" beach. im not too concerned about the rough water side of the island - stayed in jamaica last year so know how nice the sea can be so this trip will be a bit different! Mrs P was in charge of booking this one and i don't think she realised where it was. im the active one so will do plenty of wandering around - thank you for the info!

Was in Miami last month and there was tons of this st there too - we only visited the beach which was in the back garden of our hotel (Fontaine Bleue) once and spent most of the water time by the hotels pools. Sad really.

East coast again...remember there is about 1knot of constant wind driven current hitting the east coast everday in the eastern carib..and the wind blows fron between north and south east for around 355 days a year....hence East coast issues.
