I have usually been disappointed with land based AI hotels (but I will admit to not aiming to high up the price range), but have been very satisfied with floating AI hotels, aka cruise ships. Cruise lines have traditionally offered full board food, but a number now offer all inclusive drinks packages. Personally I have found (at the same price point) the quality of the food and drink offering is much better than the land based AI, and the service is certainly better.

We have just returned from Crete (Mirabello Hotel in Aghios Nikolaos) which is also rated as 5 star (5T) and we found it very disappointing. Previous Tripadvisor reviews were very good, but lately it's getting a few not-as-good reviews - I wonder if all this 'Greek-Crisis' situation (uncertainty, increase in VAT etc) has meant some of the big hotels in Greece have cut budgets. Sensatori might be ok, but I would take note of latest reviews.

I would like to try a cruise one year. Re the quality of AI hotels - from some of the replies on this thread, it seems like the best are 'adult-only resorts/hotels.

I dont think its a steal either. Its way more than you'd pay for better AI's in the carribbean; probably double. I know that the guy doesnt want longhaul, so maybe European AI is much more expensive for some reason. I'd say it's possibly down to the fact Carribean can run 52 weeks a year v what 4-5 months in the Med so basic building and repair cost per room per year will be higher --- could be wrong. DJRC said:
About a grand for a week in Crete. And then I begrudge that! Paying over £100 a night for anywhere in Europe annoys me!
We went there 4 years or so ago paid that sort of money it was a dump IMHO. Triple the budget and more its worlds apart. Man up I say. You only live once why scrimp

the all inclusive scuba is just amazing, we manage around 20 dives in a 2 week period, when we went to mexico dives were $50 each.

Lovely liking place Anyway just proved this up a basic twin room 2 adults 2 kids over 2 on return all inclusive option £7.300 for 11 nights. .....
Looking at the prices to me it makes nearly no sense to go to europe if you want a good all inclusive. For the same price sometimes cheaper you can go mexico. There is not many better all inclusives out there than in mexico.
Some of these european ones make me choke at the price when iv just booked to thailand, 2 people 5 star, complete luxury, 5 star trip advisor etc for about £1200 each inclusing flights, transfers etc. Plus with my dads price update of "Dinner costs me £4! Yet we went into a fancy steak house and was ripped off! They charged us £20. " i thought id give it a go.
p.s. i cant remember the name but i went to a place in majorca that was quality. £450 each (sure its now double) Steaks all you can eat every night cooked on a bbq any way you'd like. My heart did not thank me for that week.
