I'm just back from a 2 week stay there. The Grand section isn't yet complete, the waterpark isn't finished yet, there's a huge building under construction (more restaurants, bars?) and there are still full blocks of rooms being fitted out - the noise from the construction was our daily wake up call as we overlooked the new waterpark - which does look like it'll be good once it's open, though I wouldn't a room next to it when it does.

I don't want to ruin anyone's anticipation of a holiday, but I'd ask your travel agent what part of the resort you will have access to as they are phasing in different coloured wristbands some of which don't give you access to anything at the Grand (they are setting that up as a separate hotel now) without expensive day or evening passes being required.

I personally wouldn't go back, maybe it just wasn't my kind of resort/holiday.
I've already double checked with virgin that I will have access to the grand aswell as the rest of the site. Travellers from the UK will have access until 1st November when you have to pay to access it. Which section did you stay in?

We have spent the last 5 Christmas/New Years at Moon Palace and really enjoy it, booked again for this year. The place is huge so does not suit everyone but now The Grand section is finally complete you will have over 20 great restaurants to choose from. If you play golf don't forget to take your clubs and plenty of balls. Steer clear of the timeshare presentations, it is the massive hard sell. Hope you enjoy it as much as my family do.

Do you know when the water park will be finished?

Stayed in the Nizuc and was so disappointed we complained and got moved to the Grand. The room at the Grand was very nice in fairness, though they don't seem to have much by way of soundproofing!

The waterpark looks ready to open any week now, when we were leaving they had unpacked and set out sun loungers and chairs, and staff were testing some of the slides - the kiddie section seemed to be open and the huge indoor kid's play centre adjacent was open. They were still bolting together the last of the sections on one or two of the water slides, but the landscaping and outdoor lighting etc was having finishing touches made to it.

Stayed at the Viceroy Sugar Beach, St Lucia a few years ago - best AI we've stayed in by far. Personal phone to your butler, buggy to whisk you around the resort, private plunge pool for your "cottage", a la carte food and branded drinks. Oh and the setting is amazing - nestled in a mini rainforest between the Pitons....views were to die for.

That was pre-kids though and now with a 2 year old and a 12wk old it may be a few years until we go back!

I'm looking for an AI holiday for me and the mrs (no kids) for sometime in August/September. Anyone have any recommendations. Looking for a beach holiday with good food.
Barut Lara (Antalya turkey) looks great and has good reviews but am worried it may be more family focussed.
If anyone has any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sensatori in negril Jamaica is excellent.

Coconut bay in St Lucia- specifically their new adults chalets.

Both somewhere we would go again.

Not sure Caribbean is a bit far for only a week but we've used Tropic Breeze for the last 3 years and they have been excellent at finding and organising our holidays. Speak to Karen @ https://www.tropicbreeze.co.uk/special-offers.php

Only ever went on one AI, even then with a gun to my head.
Her family organised one to Torremolinos, as her dad was a tad depressed because the first anniversary of my MILs death was imminent, and my wife wanted to be there for her dad.
Fortunately it was only 4 nights, I was toying with putting rocks in my pockets, and wading into the sea, in the rough direction to North Africa.
I told my wife when we got back, “Nicky, I love you more than life itself, but PLEASE, don’t ever ask me to go on one of those again.”
I guess that it’s a horses for courses thing, when we go away, we rent a house with a pool, hire a car, fix our own breakfast and maybe lunch, sit around the pool nursing mango or grapefruit juice until noon, then in the afternoon split a bottle of chilled wine.
We go out to dinner almost every night, who cares what it costs, she deserves it, and life’s too short, we’re only here for seventy odd years, it ain’t a rehearsal.

Mitsis Blue Domes on Kos. Outstanding hotel/resort. It's your upmarket all inclusive experience. Kids will be minimal but it's big enough to get away from them if that's what you want. Food is amazing. Drinks are good. Weather is perfect (usually). Only downside is travel time from airport but it's worth it. Would be quicker if you got a taxi/hired a car but I did the coach transfer which did a lot of stops before Blue Domes so it took ages.

I was never a big fan of all inclusive until I went to Blue Domes. I'd do it again, but only at a hotel like this.

VUX, we've recently returned from the Rixos Premium in Gocek, Turkey. It was lovely. Adults only (well, over 13's), excellent service, very good food, place was spotless, drinks were good, superb private beach, spacious room. Only 30 minutes from Dalaman airport. Thoroughly recommended.

Just back from the Ikos Olivia near Halkidiki. Very very good service, food, hotel and drinks. A bit on the noisy side with kids at dinner but otherwise good. Russian contingent low and not that obvious.

Probably the only gripe was the behaviour of some of the parents (english). Many of them seemed to think that holidays meant giving up all responsibility for their children and administering any discipline from their chair whilst talking over your table at dinner.
Bump

I keep looking at the Olivia on Tui hoping for the price to come down a bit. Looks a nice hotel and reviews seem solid. In fact all the Ikos resorts look excellent. Really fancy going to Halkidiki this year..

eek

WTAF?

£15k for a family of 4? For a hotel? In Greece, that country rather well known for, ah, not having a high cost of living?!? What planet are these people on?!?

I could take my family to Disneyland then on to Hawaii, all 4-star or better, and STILL have change! Or to Australia. Or on safari and then to Zanzibar.

Bit of a thread resurrection rather than starting a new one.

Anyone got anything great to report, likely Carribbean way thinking November/December?
