I've used Hotel B&B on a number of trips and while they may not be a quaint little place in the country they are reliable and I know I can book them late in the day on an app on my phone and happily arrive at any time I like. If you fancy smaller B&B or hotels then fine but worth using as a back up.

I don't understand the fascination with chain hotels. Why give money to a large cooperation where most of what you pay goes into the multiple layers of management and the least gores into your accommodation? Better to find a small family run hotel/guest house which will always be invariably better value for money and you know where the money is going. It seems to a be a very British 'thing' to stick to chain businesses and 'well known' brands. as a minimum an IBIS budget or a refurbed Premier classe

You'll find accommodation on the day, but the problem with doing it on the fly is that you waste a lot of time actually seeking it out and sometimes staying in digs that you wouldn't ordinarily consider suitable.
This is spot-on, I've done it myself, between jobs I've hopped on the bike and just disappeared into France for a few days at a time, if you only need one room then just go for it. I've had good rooms and bad rooms but always had a room! Top tip, ride around a little 1/4 mile radius when you arrive where you want to be, I've stayed in fleapits, got unpacked and changed and walked out to find something to eat only to find a much nicer place to stay just around the corner!Gassing Station | Holidays & Travel | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
