Best route from Como to Calais
Discussion
Hi,
I was wondering what the view is on this? We have done the route a few times, and have gone back in one day the last three times. The last time was through Switzerland and then just over the German border to take the autobahn up towards Strasbourg, then on from there. I am happy to pay the tolls for the autoroute for ease/ to save time.
My question really hinges on the St Gotthard tunnel - we have queued there a fair bit in the past and the queue going north looked monstrous. Any ideas either on a plan B and/or an effective way of knowing the live traffic status for that tunnel going north ( I could not see much in the way of traffic news).
Thanks!

In the end went over the pass which was spectacular
Only takes about 15 min more even if there was no queue for the tunnel and breathtaking views. Although we are doing Italy-UK in one day we'll worth it
Groups of cars going the other way included three Lambos and half a dozen 911s and a gaggle of MX-5s
