Berlin - weekend travel

Going to Lollapalooza in Berlin the weekend after next. Arrive Friday early evening, need to get from Tegel in to the City Centre near Checkpoint Charlie. U Stadtmitte U2 seems to be the nearest stop to my hotel.
Saturday and Sunday we are only going to have to get to Tempelhof for the festival.. Monday we are going to have to cram in as much of Berlin as we can before we head back to Tegel for a late flight back.
What's the best option for public transport? Is there a 4 day pass that would work for us or should we just look at a one day pass for the Monday?
I've been a couple times before, but other than Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the radio tower (or whatever it's called), I'm happy to hear some recommendations for things to do. Every time I've been to Berlin before I've had a local to show me around and they showed me the "real" Berlin - so tourist stuff is fine!
