Anyone have any recommendations for travel insurance for a pair of old farts? My Mum & Dad haven't a computer so will need to resort to the old fashioned method of using a telephone, notepad and quill.

Ta v.much smile

Some banks offer travel insurance up to 80 via their bank account.

Thanks - I'll get them to check with their bank. My Dad is 82 so might need to cough up a few £££!

So why can't you do a compare the market.com and book it for them? Or am I missing something?
I use Alpha Insurance but I'm not over 70.

One thing worth noting is that multi-trip policies are usually far more expensive than buying a single trip, 3 times or more and not many people go more than 3 times...

Policies over 70 aren't cheap and get even more expensive the older you get as we've found out with both sets of folks, the oldest is now 85 but she don't venture overseas now with the alzheimers. You'll need to declare all illnesses too. My father didn't bother last Christmas and ended up in hospital for 2 days over the new year and cost over 2000 euros. Good luck and take a look at this as a guide:

MY dad is 81 (heart by pass 25 years ago) and my mum is 71 and had a stroke 2 years ago. Trying to get them travel insurance for the Caribbean was a nightmare due to both age and medical history (even SAGA didn't want to know).

In the end we went with www.allcleartravel.co.uk who were recommended by Aviva as the company they send all there 'over 80' business to (and I believe who underwrite them). Managed to get a 12 month policy for just a little more than most companies wanted for a single trip.

That's interesting. My Mum gets insurance at the moment throughmy Amex card (she has a card on my account which qualifies her for travel insurance) but she's 80 ne to year and cover doesn't work after then. My sister lives in NYC so no travel insurance means seeing much less of her grandchildren.

Just to update: BUPA has so far been the cheapest - £1018 for both parents, single trip, Caribbean. Mum has Type 2 Diabetes, and dad has Asthma and high blood pressure. Most insurers want between £1200-1500 yikes

Wife and I are both in our 70s. She has had three (yes three) hip ops in the past 7 years. I'm generally OK. We travel at least twice a year.

Just back from Italy after 13 nights away. Total cost of travel insurance was just over £100 without any exclusions. We used StaySure which we have used many times before, partly because their pre existing conditions attitude is quite lenient. Most other old gits like us that I know also use StaySure.

By the way, don't travel without the insurance. The neighbours were in Fuerteventura three weeks ago and she had a stroke. Air ambulance job at a cost reckoned to be above £25,000.

It's a great shame that so many elderly people don't get to visit their kids and grandkids who live abroad not because they can't afford the flights, but they can't afford the travel insurance.

Not that I'm blaming the insurers, as they are in business to make a profit and aren't running an old folks charity. The premiums aren't sky high out of spite. They are high for good reason.

No solution to it I guess.

+1 for Stay Sure who we have used in the past.
I use Farmers Mutual for my car insurances as they have given me some really competitive quotes, and included with this for an extra £90 is travel insurance most of the world except the USA that is an extra over, and my wife has had some heart ops.

i've no experience but have heard good things about Holiday Extras "Latitudes" travel insurance (http://www.holidayextras.co.uk/holiday-insurance/latitude-travel-insurance.html) and also that it is worth trying the broker justtravelcover.com or insurancewith.com
