I dont really understand how you are going to spend any time there anyway. Are you are going there after going to Lewis? You wont be there before midnight.

We are off to Lewes for one night (staying off the high street for the festival) and then spending a night in H/I the day after.

As soon as you escape the island, there is quite a nice pub on the coast called the Royal Oak in Langstone, it is not the one just on the bridge.

But as others have said, Hayling is a bit of a dump!
Ah Royal Oak not the Royal George sorry. Last time I stayed there earlier this year it was closed for renovations.

Had the misfortune to stay on Hayling Island years ago, when work booked myself and a colleague a hotel there.

I think we refused to go back, and ended up in Arundel the next trip, which was a much better option..

Arundel is a good shout - lovely little town, some good pubs and places to eat, and not a million miles from Lewes.

Like others on here, I'm no fan of Hayling Island.

I've spent a week there in the last 2 months for work purposes. Best part about going there was leaving!

I certainly didn't stay there, there's a Marriott in Port Solent which is a 15 min drive away.

Not helpful for you though, other than to say I wouldn't bother.

We have booked already. Will have to find a nice pub for dinner somewhere on the Island. Judging from the comments Im glad we didn't check in for more than 1 night now!

It's not that bad. My brother lives on the Island and loves it smile
The Maypole is an OK pub for a drink and meal.

If you can afford an R8 you can afford to write off a night's accomodation. Honestly, the majority are right on this thread !

Neither do I but you just might find H/I is the very definition of "waste" wink

ha ha surely the beautiful sea can't be that bad?!! You want to try living under the Heathrow flight path for a few months... Im hoping even a city bum like me will appreciate the quiet of H/I for one night.

Anyone with some good dinner suggestions seeing as its apparently not a Michelin Starr destination from all the feedback? biggrin

This place is lovely, just dont park your car in the car park at low tide & expect it still to be dry when you get back at high tide wink

Its in a lovely little place called Bosham not far away but worth the drive

Trust me, Hayling Island is not your thing.

I stayed a couple of nights here; http://www.g-boutiquehotel.co.uk/rooms

Won 4 in a bed and was a very pleasant place to stay and not that far away. Write off Hayling and if you must be relatively local then see if these guys have any rooms.

Of all the places you could have chosen within relatively easy access from/to Lewes, you've chosen quite comfortably the worst! It's awful, a dump, and nothing to do there of any interest or quality.

The best thing to pass time would probably be to stand looking out to sea, thereby blocking out all behind/to the sides of you, but I'd imagine that gets boring after a while.

Lovely, will try some of those places. Im determined to give it a go now and stay in the g-boutique hotel the night after to drown my apparent sorrows from H/I!
