any inside info on a better way than

1/ train to birmingham then up to manchester £150

2/ coach direct 6hrs £100

3/ taxi door to door best price £300!

4/ hire car one way £50 but hassle hiring etc

is there a shiply type thing for people rather han packages where you put your dates and journey out there for bids?

My wife regards herself as an expert on this route.

Her answer Stansted Express to Tottenham Hale (expensive if you have not booked ahead) tube to Euston, train to Manchester.

like yourself RD, my wife is well versed in the stan > lon commute and this was her first choice, but I'm reluctant to go anywhere near london at 5pm as I'm not used to it.

apparently there is a business account for car hire floating around, thats a much easier walk in walk out affair for hire so this is looking most likely for convenience and cost at the mo

I must admit, I would always rather drive.

M11, A14 should not be too bad on a Monday evening, particularly if you are ahead of the commuters from London.

trouble is we'll have just flown in from france and we'll be on an 11hr flight the next day from manchester, think we'd prefer some road time to break things up as customs etc are a bit of a drag.

rdjohn, thx for the road route, this is looking favourite, like the blagg a ride link, not seen that before, tah!
