. I spoke to one of the guides and there are a few companies that'll take you on personal tours of the island. We would give this a bash next time.
That would be pretty good I think.I went a long time ago and they were still a touch foreigner-wary and you were strongly discouraged from leaving compounds and tours like the cigar facotries were all straight-there-straight back.
I'd do a week or so in two different places. We went to New York and saw all the stuff there, then got a flight from there to St Lucia. I'm not that into sitting on a beach for two or three weeks, so it was ideal. You could probably do similar with a lot of your preferred destinations.
Thanks again for all your suggestions chaps. Appreciated.
We decided on Cuba in the end. Seems like a good blend of beach and culture. Moreover, I think it's important to experience it now before the inevitable changes. Flying direct with Virgin. More expensive but direct (plus the cheaper flights on Aeromexico and Avianca looked somewhat dubious).
Fiji seemed like something to do as part of a 'bigger' holiday incorporating Oz/NZ but it will be done. As will the US road trip and the S African adventure.
