Will do smile I have a blog running so will add a link. Currently in Greymouth for the night to drink a bit of beer at Monteith's Brewery then down the West Coast smile

There's loads to do down the West Coast, especially if you like hiking and biking. I've only ever spent two or three days on that route (from north to south) in the past but I'd like to spend a good week or so exploring around there. Hire a crappy MTB in Franz Josef, you can take it all the way to the glacier - with a bit of walking with the bike on the footpath.

Nobody seems to go to Stewart Island, which is nice, since that's where we go to really relax smile

Got hooked on their cider when we were over there last - very quaffable. Now buy a case every Xmas from the Sanza shop

Hey folks,

Thanks for the tips. I'd have liked an extra week out at least but did manage to cover 1600km in my time on the road! West Coast was awesome, helicopter flight over the glaciers a real highlight and loads of hiking/kayaking as well.

Plenty of ideas for the next big trip here I reckon, so much outdoors stuff to see and all so accessible...

If anyone's interested I'll be uploading my travels onto my blog over the next couple of days:

Really enjoyed reading your blog as I was over there too. Arthur's Pass was a great drive also we did the scenic route to Picton. So little traffic on the roads compared to here. A great country NZ.
We did the East coast highway down to CCH and Methven then across the pass and along the west coast highway.
Christchurch has a long way to go yet but very sad to see so many buildings still waiting for demolition. The Cathedral was unbelievable but I did see the new temporary one which has cardboard columns etc inside.
Yes, Hokokiti was a lovely little town along with many others both in the North and South Islands.

Weird, faded, desolate, windy (destroyed our camera when taking shots on the beach there that much sand being blasted around) little town. One place we made sure we returned to last time we went. Great fish and chips at this little shack at the bottom end of the town by the river. Definitely worth a stop over even if just on the way to somewhere else
