Hi guys,

I'm organising a stag do and wanted to possibly head somewhere a touch different from the usual Eastern European places.

I was thinking Reykjavic in Iceland could be cool with a glacier trip and the blue lagoon.

Has anyone been? Any suggestion on where is best to stay area wise? I'm thinking of booking some hostels as we did that previously and they were great, private rooms of 4 and basic facilities was all we needed.

Cheers!

The beer was eye wateringly expensive when we went (but that was years ago)

Hmm that could be an issue! Last place we went was Amsterdam and it was quite pricey as well.

The local lager, which isn't too bad at all, was about £4.50 / pint a year ago, so not too bad

That's fairly expensive, but not a million miles off of what you pay here really.

Where about is the main strip for nightlife? I'd like to pick a hostel near there if possible.

Going in July I assume it's 24hr daylight - are the pubs open all night as well?

Any must do or must see things while there? Trying to work to a budget, but want to slip something a bit different in if possible.

Wow, that is cheap really. We managed to pay £20 for a pint in the nineties! (Was in the best hotel though)

was there at easter with my mates for a weekend. as for the cost of beers etc.... I really dont think its much worse than any other big city for prices. most of the bars we went into do happy hours and stuff where its a bit cheaper.

accommodation we stayed here:

http://www.rey.is/

self catered apartments, just a short walk to the main drag/strip/street bit. plenty of pubs and places on this street to keep you entertained for a weekend.

one word of warning though- people do not go out until much later than here. pubs dont really get busy until 12-1am and the party goes on until 4/5/6am! they mostly seem to stay in having some drinks at home before heading out.

although its a complete tourist trap (eg expensive and they have you over a barrell when there) we all loved 'the blue lagoon'. its easier to do on the way to the airport (and expensive to get to, its in the middle of nowhere). but its really was cool.

I did this with my teenage kids, I think it would be interesting with a full on hangover. They pick you up from your accommodation so all you have to do is heave yourself out of bed

Are all of the stag group happy to pay out for a trip like that? I do find it frustrating that some people seem to think that its acceptable for stag dos to cost literally hundreds of pounds.

A friend of mine came back from Iceland two weeks ago. He was there for work, but said the same as many on this threa. Very expensive when you get there.

Yes its expensive but if you make the effort to go all the way to iceland just getting drunk and doing nothing else is a waste, you'd be better off going to magaluf. If money is an issue then Iceland isnt the place to go. I planned everything in advance so I knew how much it was going to cost and got a reasonable discount via an agency.

Expensive.
Blue Lagoon's a bit crap and snelly.
Cold and/or snowy.
Lots of nakedness in changing rooms, pools etc.

I wouldn't rush back. And certainly not for a stag weekend.

If all you want is cheap beer and even cheaper wes eastern Europe is where it's at.
