Quick heads up, the border on the A16/E40 is diverted off to two roundabouts then back on to the motorway, this is on both sides of the road. If you like sitting in 5kms of traffic stay on the motorway, if not get off at Dunkirk/Adinkirke and head towards the coast/canal roads to miss it, its looking to be rubbish for the next few months. Also the migrants have broken through the fence on the run up to the port in Calais, they are dragging crap on to the road to try to stop drivers, all traffic was being diverted through town which was a nightmare last night.

This was the reason we went Dover Dunkirk last time. No trouble at the time but its always just there waiting to happen.

I sometimes use Dover - Dunkirk and it must be 8-10 yars ago I saw people apparently living in shipping containers there so I'm surprised nothing has kicked off before now.

Thanks for the tip off. Was considering the short crossing.

Won't be bothering with it any more. I don't like France at the best of times but until they bother to put their house in order I'll use other routes.

Bugger, I'm heading over and back on the tunnel over NYE, hope it's all sorted and back to normal by then.

I was supposed to be in Belgium last weekend coming back yesterday. I've put the trip off till the spring.

The weather turned and I didn't think the security situation would have been conducive to a relaxing, pleasant break.

I've already booked and paid for the tunnel crossing, I'll just keep my foot down and my eyes closed.

You should be ok on the tunnel, D4 is the last junction that you need to turn off the A16.Miss that and its wait or reverse up a slip road, clears throat with a cough....

Why would anyone bother going there at this time?

It's bad enough under normal circumstances but now - you'd have to be mad.

Utterly fking mental.

bks to going through France any time soon, particularly with the extra border checks (which are all a bloody sham anyway).
Christ feel sorry for those lorry drivers and seems there's zero security, wonder how long it will be until one of those poor drivers just flips and keeps driving over them until he is stopped

There was a baracade across the road towards the port the other day, it was empty barrels and bit of tree. My dad drove through it in his coach smashing it out of the way, police just stood by and watched it. Still doesn't bother me and I'll still go over for day trips and holidays.

Very surprised that a Lorry driver hasn't been killed yet.

Just for the record, I believe several lorry drivers have been killed, I do know that around 5 years ago my Mother's cousin was stabbed and killed in Calais by people he found try to climb in to his lorry, I'm not close to that part of the family, but never been caught to the best of my knowledge.

I heard a Polish lorry driver was killed by migrants recently.. how true the rumour is is hard to tell, but looking at some footage it's not unbelievable.
I'm supposed to be going before Christmas and I really don't know what to expect

When traveling to the continent I have no alternative but to use the tunnel. So going to continue, freight is the target rather than private cars. The last time we went through no problems, a few unsavoury looking types hanging around.

For us it's a bit like driving through a dodgy urban area, doors locked etc. We don't travel @ peak times and I can't remember having to stop or slowing down on the carriageway.

No it's not. Been through there twice in the last 3 weeks - tunnel, Calais Port and Dunkerque port - no problems at all. There are roadblocks on the A16 but that's the only issue.

Booked a couple of months ago, taking the blokes who work for me for a long weekend in a nice hotel in Bruge, they work hard and deserve it.
Cancelling the trip because of a bunch of religious retards is out of the question.

Otherwise better stay away from shopping centres at Christmas and the West End and tube trains and buses and pubs and airports and holiday resorts and any other of our freedoms that millions have died for.

Went thru the channel tunnel on Tuesday this week, no problems at all. However, we will be avoiding shopping centers, underground trains, West End, pubs etc by staying away from the UK. Simply not worth the risk.
